Just had a brain wave. This isn't meant as a theory - just a daft idea that popped into my head that I thought others might enjoy discussing.

The little girl is Kovarian,

Kovarian is either trying to recreate herself as some sort of superwoman or else she's dying (the eyepatch is just one visible symptom) and needs DNA from children which are either already special or they have been genetically altered to either remove something that is causing her symptoms or to add something to combat them or give her "superpowers".

Think along the lines of Countess Dracula bathing in the blood of virgins to gain immortality.

She has to make the changes to herself as a child. The "spacesuit" is an anti-Paradox device - it allows her to be in the same place as her younger self - as well as being a kind of reverse-stasis chamber that keeps the child young whilst allowing the child to effectively evolve with the altered DNA.

She "kidnapped" herself as a child - the little Kovarian doesn't know what's happening - and has been injecting her with the extracted DNA from those children.

She can become a new nemesis - a none Gallifreyan Time Lord who is every bit as powerful as the Master complete with the ability to regenerate.

One nice thing about this - Melody can be found in 1969 and still be a baby so Amy and Rory can get their baby back safe and sound. Also, Madame K's experiments may involve removing all of the enhanced DNA from Melody so she grows up to be 100% human.

Like I say - just a conversation starter.

I like this, though I suspect it may be a little convoluted. That said, we could discover more about the character in the second half of the series which makes this make perfect sense!

Convoluted - when written out like this, maybe. In a script, the back story would only need to be implied and the whole thing could appear in a line like...

"You're too late Time Lord - your species is dead and you will soon join them. I've been stealing children across eons of time without anyone noticing and now I've taken their DNA and injecting it into myself as a child. Your little friend's child was the final piece of the puzzle - and so wonderful knowing that I could take her from under your nose. Every day I feel my powers growing and now it is complete."

Silence?

Same place they come in no matter who the little girl is.

They could be "servants" of the bad-guys or they could actually be helping the good-guys. At present, their role in anything is almost completely unknown.

All we know about them is that they could move around freely, plant suggestions into people's minds and claim to have been on Earth for a very long time. We've seen them in the same room as the little girl whilst she was wearing the spacesuit but there was no sign that they could see her or vice versa. We've seen that they have the ability to use violence but they only used it once when they were directly threatened by the Doctor and once to apparently kill a woman whose name was known to them but with no other explanation as to why. We've seen them in the "tardis-lite" room telling Amy that she'd been there for days but nothing to say that they put her there or why.

Basically, apart from looking creepy, they really haven't done much of anything that we are aware of.

Fair enough, I like the theory. My only real issue with it is that I don't like Kovarian as a character. She annoyed me greatly, to the point where I hope she isn't the big bad (maybe working for the big bad instead).

That's why I gave her the ability to regenerate - we can have a less "bwa-ha-ha" villain and "they" can recast as often as they need to. I like the idea of the "petty" crook becoming something more dangerous - it's a common theme in Marvel and DC comics.

Basically, it's a way to create a new "Master" style villain without him/her actually being THE Master. We could do with a female "super-villain" and I'd prefer the Master to remain as he is.

I could add a simple twist - Madame K is not the big-bad but when she gets her powers, she turns on them as well and the big-bad for this series is defeated but she is effectively a a new one who is created and escapes.


I have to say, my personal feeling is that I agree with you - Mrs K is a flunky and there's a far bigger threat behind it all. I reckon Mrs K will get her come-uppence in a very human way - River or Amy will punch her lights out. Still, nice to play with these daft ideas occasionally.

Nah - she's a non-Time Lord who gives herself Time Lord(ish) abilities by going back and altering her own DNA in the past. She may be giving herself powers and attributes from a whole load of races - a bit of Time Lord to allow regeneration, a bit of something else to give herself telekenesis etc.

Like I say - not a theory - just an off-the-cuff idea for a bit of fun.
