No way I'll even be trying this. Some things are just meant to be British.

It's going to be subject to a head-to-head with The Killing on Channel 4 in a couple of weeks time by the looks of things. Madness!

What a strange attitude. Shame you feel that way, as you will miss a fantastic series.

Shameless is about as British as you can get. In fact, it's about as Manchester as you can get! It's just not right to try and replicate it (even with the same names) somewhere else.

But the current run of UK shamless that C4 appear to have dumped midseason has been very poor.
Once paddy left it went downhill for me.

I've already seen this, and as someone who never liked the original UK version, i loved it. After a shaky first episode it starts to find an identity of it's own that is undeniably American. And for once, the child actors are all superb too, particularly Lip and the little girl (whose name escapes me right now).

I'd highly recommend it, even if you didn't like the original.

Debbie is the little girl, and yes, Lip is excellent. In fact, the whole cast was.

If you are a fan of filming/film technique its well worth catching just for that, its unusual to see such a good job being done on a TV series. Thats in addition to the cast who are fantastic. Unmissable.

Joan Cusack is stellar in this version. I loved the UK Sheila but Joan just pitches the character so well, and I've loved the actress since way back in Working Girl (although she'll always be Cowgirl Jesse in our house!)

Indeed. However, in this case, the Yanks have employed Shameless creator and writer, Paul Abbot, to 'adjust' the show so it makes sense in America.

I've seen a couple of episodes, and it works really well. The Yank Frank, while never destined to be as iconic as our own Manc plank, does a fine job. Some of the younger actors, such as the one playing Debbie, are nowhere near as good as ours, but still better than most. Oh, and the next door neighbour is an incredibly sexy black woman.

Shameless US is well worth a look, it's familiar and yet very different.

That does have something to do with it, but every new program gets 3 chances so hopefully the next 2 will change my opinion.

It's beautifully shot. I like what they have done with the characters too, but they don't seem grotty and chav enough. The Frank is one of my favourite actors but he is usually more straight-laced than that and it takes a second to believe in him.
