50th Anniversary-How else would you like to see it celebrated?

There's been plenty of talk over the last few weeks on the forum over what Doctor Who should do for it's 50th anniversary within Doctor Who itself, but was just wondering what other type of celebration outside of the show you'd like to see in 2013.

Me personally, I'd love to see a not just one big documentary, but a whole series on it. A sort of weekly episode covering a certain era, decade or a couple of Doctor's each week. Starting off with the 60's and bringing it smack up to-date with the New series.

I'd also love to see another Longleat type thing they did for the 20th anniversary but much much bigger!!!!

So that's mine, what would you like to see?

A trip in the TARDIS would be nice. A couple of different solar systems and I'd be happy.

That was not the Doctor I had in mind.

only one thing that can be done in my mind.... Time War. I know ste moffat has said he wont do it and I know chris ecclestone has also said 'no way' to returning to the role but I'd pull out all the stops to get Paul McGann and Chris Ecc to do it... I'd do epic on a grand scale. Get Tim Dalton back as well and really go for it.

We can see Davros fly into the eye of harmony and go on to watch McGann regenerate into eccleston at the end...

That's my shout at it, and I'd love to watch it

Erm, great idea but that is not the point of this thread! That is within Doctor Who, I was asking what people wanted to see outside of the show as a celebration........

Yes as long as it's Paul McGann, Paul McGann or Paul McGann

Oh well, okay. I preferred my interpretation of the thread better though. Would have been good. What was the bland question then.... ahhhh I don't care

DaveyBoy...

I'm with you - make the celebration bigger than the newly-filmed episodes.

How about a competition (Radio Times) to vote for "the best" story from each Doctor? Show each complete story during the year - maybe a story per week during summer if DW is off-air. Have DW Confidentials for each story - involve as many of the original cast, crew, writers and so on as possible. Then - release the whole run as a special edition "Greatest Hits" boxed set. Money permitting - get those episodes restored (not tamperred with - just cleaned up).

I'd personally like a very intimate episode, focusing on the Doctor finally facing up to having committed genocide on his own people.

It's been touched upon a lot, however, I don't believe it's ever been fully, emotionally deconstructed.

Though I think multi-doctor episodes are gimmicky; I think it would also be brilliant to bring back Paul McGann in flashback for the Time War scenes - the story culminating a very emotional & harrowing regeneration scene, (the missing regeneration scene - that finally, tangibly links Classic Who with New Who) - and presents us with Christopher Eccleston, emerging from the regenerative pire.

Finally, we return to Matt Smith, at peace with the part he played.

Not sure about that, touched upon might be better (but more than lately) so the viewers just imagine it. If they showed you it completely it might spoil the idea somewhat (especially if they messed it up), although that could just be me. No offence intended but I also don't like the last part of that, sounds like you want them to get rid of it entirely.

Hoorah! Somebody gets the question at last!!!

Yes, all great ideas. They could even do, in conjunction with your idea, what they did in '93 and show a series of stories featuring every Doctor. I really enjoyed that as at that time not all of them had been released on video.

The part about being at peace, it sounds like the Time War idea wouldn't carry on after that. Sorry it's not very clear, I'm posting on several things at once

Ughh? bizarre.

What's River Song got to do with anything either of us have said?

You are right though I do have no imagination with regards your question. I read it as something else, am sorry. I'll leave your thread alone now.

No, not at all. I didn't mean that it would not longer be referenced. Just that the Doctor finally accepts the thing he's been running from, as the thing he must accept & atone for. To be at peace with his decision is not to move away from it. It's just an adjustment in how he deals with it.

Maybe Eleven sits down to tell whoever his companions are about the Time War. Matt Smith doesn't necessarily need to be the main Doctor in the episode. I'd love a Time War setting in a two-parter. It would give the chance to bring back some old characters, Susan, Romana, The Master, The Rani etc. so we find out what happened to them.

I'd like the BBC to go all out celebrating it, not just with special stuff in the episodes but various events around the country like the Crash of the Elysium (but with Adults able to attend), the live show, the proms etc. Bring Doctor Who to the people in real life for a few months, make it a few months that the people who attend will never forget and the people who didn't will always regret missing.

You can have any of them. But I've got the bridal suite booked for my tryst with River Song.
