None of the many Soap and other channel thumbnails from yesterday are updated .
The box was in Standby from 2300 to 0700 and no power cuts recorded..
Is this a System fault or were Humax short of staff overnight perhaps?
I delete daily so am perhaps more aware than most of this failure..

I don't know if that question is serious but overnight updating does not require any action from Humax.

Did you set it to make any recordings between 02:30 and 03:30 this morning?

Mine also had no "thumbnails" for progs recorded yesterday.
Was definitely in standby all night.
It seems to do this occasionally and the next day, things have caught-up.

Thanks for the prompt replies..
No recordings set for overnight..
I did not really think that the housekeeping had a human input.. but overnight U/Ds with the Tesco Freeview sprang to mind.. hence though that a remedial U/D had taken place..
Puzzled as to why it happens ...and indeed why i seem almost alone in reporting the failures..although I am aware that not everyones wife prefers watching on Sky and hence the recordings are dominantly unwatched.
Are you both saying it did not happen to you or are you both not in a position to comment for yesterdays recordings perhaps?
I will leave them.. ALL Seven.. blank to see if they update overnight tonight.. Quite coincidentally..
The lack of Thumbs when one copies to USB are most irritating to me.. as they are the recordings that I.. me.. actually want to keep It seems so incompatible with a HI-tech device particularly as my very old Panny Hard drive copies the Freeview Thumbs to the DVDs ..Most people would construe that it's not Rocket Science but seemingly it is on FreeSat..is the technical background to that obstacle related to the overnight mechanism updates in any way?

To rub salt in the wound and more puzzlement.. the new Panny TV sets up the Thumbs immediately on the USB attached Hard drives on Freeview..Oh dear..
I feel a Rex Harrison song "Why can't.. " coming on.

Thanks Graham..and as i have seen and reported in before such unexplained failures..
it is NOT by definition a System Overnight Update..
Regular and Periodic..I agree but.. 'How does it catch up on failures..'..
Human intervention perhaps or a Design Feature?

I did notice browsing the guide this morning that some days were blank.

Also a little off topic, when both tuners are free and you are watching a recording and press guide it does not fetch the full guide...

Again poor programming or does it need the video processing stage to extract the guide data?

Automan.

Not sure why this should be but schedule followed by red does load the entire cached epg (at least I haven;t noticed any missing data) so it can't be video processing related.

Its not uncommon for related channels to have missing data, afaik it's a transmission problem not down to the box. Reported incidents previously not only affect different boxes but both Freesat and Freeview.

Just out of interest what do people use the thumbnails for? I have never found a use for them.

Fascinating but just the opposite for me Automan

Just tried it on mine.. as is entirely reasonable so to do..e.g.
me watching recording.. wife says can you also record XYZ tonight ..
I Instinctively press PAUSE then GUIDE and lo and behold i can do what i have done for 2 years .. immediately enter a recording slot..not one nanosec of WAITING..
What a design feature Hurrah!

That's because tuner 1 is recording so the guide button now functions as the schedule then red button does. It's been that way from launch.

The Samsung flagship Freesat+ box makes just one thumbnail and only when you start to watch it.

I'm sure that you are right Graham.. however In the pursuit of knowledge for the forum I will leave mine on alnight in Record mode on both channels.. Hence we can then see if my 'presumably' Non-Updated Thumbs tomorrow morning.. get updated the following night..with those of the day..
That should reveal something of the inner workings of the Box.

It will do all of the video files for which a thumbnail folder does not exist. (except for the timeslip buffer 0.ts) If you delete a thumbnail folder it will be recreated the next day.

Does the bookmark feature create thumbnails?

That is if anyone has used the bookmark feature

Just checked and the only recording made yesterday is also missing thumbnails. Not worried since I rarely use them.

Not only never used but never heard of Automan..
I find no button on the remote saying 'bookmark' and a quick dabble does not show me such a word in the various Menus,..
Cannot lay my hands on the Manual but the New TV does not list the word 'Bookmark' in it's Index of the Manual..
What have i paid for and not used for 2 years please?

During replay press the book with a + (above the sleep key) to add a bookmark.

When you have bookmarks added to a recording press the book button (just to the right of the add button). Use the left right cursor keys to jump to the bookmark icon. From memory a thumbnail of the video content at the bookmark is displayed.

At the moment 2 soaps are preventing me testing such a useful feature.
Indeed.. I do have need of this... as Janet wants to point out to her friends how..
in the last episode of 'The Royal'... our new wallpaper from Homebase..featured in one of the scenes..
It is comparable on the same wall as the TV and looks lifelike in HD..
For such instances I have hitherto jumped forward a minute at a time..
and with some 50 years experience learned to say Nowt.

Interesting. Both my Humax Freesat and Humax Freeview PVR's have done odd things today. Here's my story...

What JOY Bookmarks are..
Just tried the facility out Graham and what a godsend for the grandkids' visits..
My dozens of recordings of 'Oggy' on POP.. inevitably start about 3 to 4 mins into the recorded programme..
Bookmarks solves a problem..and yes it does bring up a most valuable THUMB for each instance.

Your input is most useful Richard as it seems to me that Humax have no legal requirement to inform users that they will at predetermined times do a Micro-update to improve their sets. Has anyone any proof that they are committed not so to do?
Even the lowly in the market TESCO can and do rustleup OTA UDs at short notice for their Freeview boxes.
I have programmed 'WW2 Bombing of the North' and every hour of the night to further test the perceived wisdom of the timing concept of the housekeeping..Even Gurus quote differing 'Magic Hours'
Hence my THUMBS should be still without picture tomorrow..but udated the next night?? Although..
After the Update ..Who really knows?
