I wonder if the Freesat EPG people made some other configuration change (and not the usual channel additions / removals / name changes / transponder & frequency changes) or (however unlikely) momentarily loss of the Freesat transponder which caused everyones Humax to hang whilst performing its 3AM scan for changes?

I guess we shall all be eager to see what happens tonight. Might be worth booting the box to bring it out of standby (and then put it straight back to standby) before leaving for work tomorrow morning!

I was wondering if the summer solstice had triggered a bug in the new time-handling code leaving the time reset to Time Zero?

Perhaps it is the housekeepers summer holidays?

From my recordings I now see that ITV1 carries Still Adverts for it's own TV shows throughout the Night..
What a waste of Power or are the old fashioned 'Must be on to Synch ' issues still prevalent?
If not surely someone somewhere should say Shut it down..if only to save money?
Obviously my THUMBS were not updated and so i now have 3 days to update tonight.
If this 'Nonupdating' repeats itself again.. as in the recent past.. within the next few weeks it is then an indication that the overnight housekeeping is not as pre-ordained as one would hope.
Possibly Humax know that it will regularly fail in overnight update?
If so they should tell us now.. otherwise we will assume that they do not know what is wrong again.
How about it BobCat... is it now sorted please?

It seems from other postings something went awry at the Freesat end overnight (also affected Freeview). It apparently also screwed up schedule recordings on Foxsat-hdrs until they were manually booted. I booted mine at 09:30 so had no recording problems. Could be the freesat screw up set the clock to the incorrect time, the manual boot reset the time and restored normal operation.

My thumbs were updated correctly yesterday (as usual).
Now that housekeeping includes updating the channel list I wonder if weak freessat transponder signals may play a part of the problem- so perhaps check the signal quality on channel 999. How long does it take for the EPG to refresh on your HDR?

Repassac did you check them yesterday or today ?. Mine were not (signal 100/100). They were updated today as expected.

I checked them today just before I replied to the post. Realise now yesterday should have been this morning (BBC1 Eastenders).

Strange, the only BBC1-HD recording I have left is Eastenders and the thumbnails are present.

Savvy reported the same problem and also lack of recording until the box was rebooted, which I imagine reset the clock.

Most odd unless Freesat come clean (doubtfull) I doubt we will ever know

It's EE that I recorded both nights, without thumbnails.

The box is left in sby overnight and no recordings were made I presume. Check tommorow to see if the thumbnails get added.

Monday's weren't added this morning. Both deleted now though so can't check. Box was in standby & not recording. Will leave everything recorded today until tomorrow morning to check.

As mentioned in another thread, my HDR had been in standby since Monday, and failed to record scheduled progs on both Tuesday & Wednesday, on different channels. I have Rubicon set for record tonight (BBC4) and I'm not going to touch the box today, and see if it does it's 15 minute pre-wakeup.

How do you know it failed to record without booting the box ?.

Did you watch to see if it woke up for each scheduled recording ?

Aw c'mon, guys! Please explain why the thumbnails matter

I'm vaguely aware that there are pictures underneath the information when you first select a recording but I just press [Ok] and start watching. I used to have an Inverto that generated thumbnails and I could never see the point there either. Used to annoy me because it would spend half a minute generating the damn things before you could start playback.

Presumably people are using them like a kind of bookmark or chapters system? Still seems weird to me though. I just play recordings through from start to end then delete them.

I doubt that the thumbnail pictures matter to most owners (self included). In terms of this thread though it matters because the lack indicated some sort of problem with the box. In the event the lack of thumbnails revealed a underlying problem with the box recording it's schedule.

In terms of chapter thumbnails on DVD's produced from these though I do see a point purely because you put them in specific places rather than ones totally unrelated to the actual content.

Hi sorry if this is in the wrong thread. If it is can one of you smart folks point me to the right place. A few questions on HUMAX-Foxsat-HDR Freesat
- what is thumbnails?
- real questions
I have setup to record several series & last week a couple failed to show (BBC & ITV). Then they did but when I tried to run I got the FAILED to record msg. So could only delete.
Also, I notice when I press on GUIDE I always seem to get the message RECEIVING PROGRAMME INFORMATION just above the time/date. It takes quite a few minutes before it clears & begins to transmit behind the list. I never ever noticed this before & I have had the box for about 2 years. I have sofware updates on Auto & have checked manual & there are no updates waiting.
Thanks for the help

Thumbnails are the small pictures you get at the bottom when you press OK on a recording in media list. They show the video content at the automatic chapter points. They went wrong on Monday night/Tuesday morning and the box stopped recording until manually booted

Next time you want to set a recording or view the epg, press the schedule button and then the red button.

After pressing guide it should take about 40 seconds not minutes before you can set a reservation. If it's taking longer try a freesat tune and don't bother to save the results.

PS There's an echo on this thread

Thumbnails are small images that demote several points on a programme you can play from - the overnight housekeeping process creates them. They are shown in Media when you select a programme.

The "RECEIVING PROGRAMME INFORMATION" should not be on screen for more than about 40 secs. Time it try a freesat retinue BUT do not save the results, retime and hopefully back to "normal".

thanks for the speedy response. But sorry I don't understand what you want me to do. I agree it normally flashes up & gone in seconds. So bear with me & give me idiot instructions
