Just out of interest what do people use the thumbnails for? I have never found a use for them.
as it's quiet..
Was it not bernard shaw who said we did not need capital letters?..Be that as it may..
Following Frost's advice.. I seem to be on a less well trodden path in the Humax Woods than either of you two and indeed others on the forum..but..
Like real life and Windows there are a multiplicity of ways to reach ones destination. It has to be appreciated that i am in a current trauma.. in that as an old fuddy duddy I used GUIDE over 1000times as a First button after Switch-on for 2 years!
A point of interest.. not realised perhaps by many.. is that there are NO Chapter thumbs on the USB drives..but thanks to G.. i have now Bookmarked the progs to achieve a similar purpose.
And when the Thumbs do not update on the Main Drive..there are then NO Chapters either on any of those programmes..

Like my hitherto well used Guide i use Thumbs regularly for several reasons ..
As a grand-dad with 4 grand kids we often have to entertain them and the youngest aged 4.. does.. like all kids.. seem to enjoy the security of well seen videos or picture books.
Hence the over 30 OGGY progs we have and have to keep on the main drive..have identical titles..'Oggy and the Cockroaches'..equally 'Bob the Builder' etc.. however they all display a Starter Thumb which thqankfully are all usually different.. A 'HOVER' causes a rotation thru the chapters..The 4 year old particular likes to decide ..after a 'Hover' tasting of several thumbs.. that she has learned to recognise..
which segment she wants to settle down to watch..
Equally Astronomy has been my hobbly for decades hence i have dozens of progs all entitled.. 'Sky@Night'..'Horizon' etc but the various thumbs show me straight away which one i want to consult... And then..
Some of my friends have plain painted walls just like a doctor's surgery....I say nothing of course.. but appreciate our wallpapered rooms
when we return home..Our new Panny shows even bigger thumbs and of course so does the Portal for Utube etc..For that matter..How refreshing the Red..Green.. Blue buttons?
We could all have numbers instead of names but what a dull life that would be..

Stan
PS..Why do some people use Emoticons

I'm back. I unplugged the box & then retune. Still find this annoying msg coming up every time I use GUIDE. I also found EE failed to record last night. Any other suggestions on what could be the problem?

You are not alone .. My ears have only just recovered after my wife discovered..
when it was too late to watch BBC3..
that WE too did not have EE recorded..
No Lightning Flashes as excuses..for a very long standing Series record..
Schedule says all ok for next week
Not everyone wants to admit that they actually watch/record soaps..
Someone decried my comment about Human intervention..surely all CRID cock-ups are such?

so perhaps within the huge system it only affected the 2 of us.. I think NOT..

Eastenders failed on my box as well. Looks like the change event id's problem has recurred (formerly a ITV trick). If you look outside the series folder you should find a failed recording.

As to the guide problem. If you use the archived epg instead of renewing the guide (Press schedule and then red) you won't have any annoying messages

Note the Sunday omnibus is a split event with the first 30 minutes on BBC2 and the rest on BBC1

I believe Eastenders was switched to BBC 2 and BBC HD. The BBC either updated the EPG too late for the PVR's to pickup on the change or the CRID's were not set correctly to allow the BBC 2 showing to appear in the same series link as the BBC 1 showing.

Brill ..Janet is happy again now..
however..
I now realise that the Panny always reverts to the First 8channels BBB1 BBB2ITV etc whne one presses GUIDE wHereas the Humax when switched off on the Remote always come back with GUIDE to the Channel last watched as the top one on the listing..Infuriating now but..
Was it always like that? perhaps distance lends enchantment..

Yes it's has always booted to the last channel used. You can boot the box by pressing any of the numeric keys but you can't change the channel it boots to that way.

We've got a One-for-All URC-7960 and have programmed the Guide button with a macro for the HDR to:

1) Press Schedule button and then
2) Press Red button and then
3) Press 101

There's not much delay involved and you end up with the Guide on BBC1. If you actually want it to be on the channel you are watching then you just cover the IR transmitter on the remote for step 3 .

Every bit of kit with an EPG I have ever used works like that. I would find it infuriating if it worked like your Panny TV.

I guess that you are a youngish man then as some 90% of my wife's viewing is on those four channels..Sheer habit I suppose.. In olden times even with a SET-TOP box one could only receive then 2 channels..Panasonic distribute to all of Europe and probaly process more than any TV and or settop box outfits so they must over the years have found it's what ordinary people want..In passing we have never bought a DVD in our lives.. which i guess is not your way of life..Takes all sorts..

Although we don't have a Humax (have a Sagem HD pvr) we also had Eastenders "failed recording", but also had "Wimbledon 2011 not received" when it wasn't set to be recorded - presumably because of the channel switch, so what you suggest may well be the reason!!

Without extracting the HDD and reading it I can't check the file dates (it's running a test at the moment) but I do have thumbnails for yesterdays Emmerdale which presumably were written this morning.

I am missing thumbnails on the single recording that was dated yesterday: Trail Of Tears_20110628_1100.ts
Rather strange - because I had been playing around with the box I rebooted it at 22:00 to make sure all was normal. I am sure I left it in standby.
