Superhero PhD: Help needed :)
UCLGeogPhD
21-06-2011
Hello,
My name is Nicholas Gray and I am a PhD student at the department of Geography, University College London. I am here today to ask you, the community, to help me with my PhD research project. I am interested in comic audience’s engagements with themes of terrorism within the Superhero genre. My research is a product of the first decade of our current century with the post-9/11 War on Terror and the influences that this has had on global audiences and media, with particular attention to superhero comic books.

It was early 2001 that I myself begun to get into comics and started by sifting through collections of Batman and Nightwing, and have since become a massive fan and collector of a number of tutles. My favourite comics are 'Batman and Robin', 'Secret Six' and 'Booster Gold' (although I am to lose two of these come September) and am looking forward to the return of Nightwing. I am therefore here as both fan and scholar to ask for the wider communities views on these themes and ideas of terrorism within the superhero genre of comics.

I have created a series of online questionnaires, one of which is designed specifically for comic readers to express their views. I was therefore wondering if you could spare approximately 15 minutes of your time to complete this questionnaire. As a sweetener all those that complete the questionnaire will be entered into a draw for a £10 Amazon.co.uk (or Amazon.com if not UK based) voucher.

I am UK based, but I am looking for a more global understanding of various issues for the online questionnaire.
The questionnaire is located at:

COMIC FANS QUESTIONNAIRE

This link will take you to the questionnaire (created using Google Documents) which should be viewable on all major internet browsers and many mobile phone browsers.

If you choose to take part and know of others local to you within household, family and friendship groups that may be interested then please feel free to pass the information of this project onto them.

Further if you have members of your family, household or friendship groups that do not read comics and would be interested In taking part in some research then please direct them to this alternate questionnaire at:

NON-READERS QUESTIONNAIRE

I thank you for taking the time to read this post and I thank all those who choose to take part.

Yours Gratefully

Nicholas Gray

Hello, still looking for participants to take part in the project if anyone looking at this has the time

It will literally only take 15 minutes maximum and that's only if you have or want to say a lot in the open question sections.

Thanks for taking time to read this post and I hope that the project is of interest to you

Absolutely hate the superhero genre, so I'd be more than happy to do your questionnaire.

Btw, did you know that it the graphic novel/comicbook was the first artform to deal with the subject of 9/11?

Thanks for the input guys.

Don't worry if you love, hate, worship, fear, despise or are indifferent to the superhero genre. If you are any of those things then you obviously have some kind of opinion towards them and issues surrounding them, which is exactly what I am after
