Hey everyone (soap fans) does anyone know the viewing figures for Home and Away? I would really appreciate your help. Thanks, in advance!

Where do you manage to get these ratings from? I only know of MediaGuardian but i have never seen them publish the teatime soaps ratings. Then there is Barb but i don't know how to sign up for that unless you sign up as a company and pay loads!

When Heat magazine used to print the top ten rated shows for each channel, H & A would regularly get anything from 2.5 million to 3 million, and would either be number one or number two (it seemed to swap with CSI).

I don't go by Heats ratings, id prefer the more official sources like MediaGuardian, but they don't tell you ratings for lots of programmes, only a chosen few

I think there is a TV magazine you can subscribe to that gives you all the official ratings but I have no idea how you'd subscribe to it, and I think it's quite expensive too

They should just officially publish the ratings. I don't see why we should have to pay loads if we want to see how different shows are doing!

I was sticking by the Heat ratings but now they're just giving the top 10 of the week (featuring all the networks).

I think Home and Away is great right now. Heat changed the ratings stuff to make way for new features in the magazine.

Anyone know what Neighbours gets then? More or less? I would assume more as it's on the BBC. I can't comment on which is of the best quality as I don't watch h&a- couldn't get back into it after 'the move.'

At its peak (during the Angel-Shane era), Home and Away attracted 12-14 million viewers regularly. It's hard to believe now but H&A was rated ITV's second most popular programme (yes - it was ahead of The Bill and Emmerdale).

That era of home and away was good.I thought the late 90's where best though with the Smith clan- like I said though I don't know about now. Neighbours peak was about 22 million I think- for Scott and Charlenes wedding. So does anyone please know how the compare- pretty please.

According to an article I read recently in The Guardian, Neighbours get about 6 million viewers. If you consider that H&A gets almost half that while being shown on a "minor" channel like five, I'd say H&A still rates pretty high as a Neighbours challenger. In Australia, hardly anyone talks about Neighbours while H&A still attracts a lot of attention with its hard-hitting (and increasingly far-fetched) storylines.

Not that I want to put a damper on things but that's more like 1/3- not that I have anything against h&a and I see your point about it being on a more minor channel- but that is a pretty big gap.
Out of curiosity, are there many of the cast left that where in it when it left channel 3- I seem to remember it having a pretty big cast turnover. (not unlike Neighbours there)! I would be interested in knowing how many of the characters I used to like are still there.

Well, I think you will still remember Irene, Haley, Coleen, Alf, Leah, Sally, Jesse, and a few others. The great thing about H&A is that old characters actually do come back occasionally (unlike in most other soaps where you normally never see departing characters again). For example, Blake and Sophie came back for several weeks about seven months ago (in UK screens), Pippa came back for Sally's wedding, and now Brodie has just reappeared for a few episodes.

What about the rest of the Smith clan then?- like Will & Nick. I heard that Vinnie died too- how did that happen? My mate used to be obsessed with Pippa- I don't know who Brodie is She must have come into it when it moved over to 5. I would have hoped Colleen would have gone by now becaue she just irritated me! I thought Hayley must still be in it because I saw her on the Saturday Show last year- She planning on being like Sally you reckon? Been there an awful long time now. I did like her though- and Gypsy.
It's all flooding back to me now Memories.

Will and Gypsy left last year after getting married (with a baby!). Will has made a couple of guest appearances since then. Nick left a couple of months ago to pursue an acting career in Hollywood. Vinnie died when the prison he was in went on fire (although rumours are flying around that he did not really die and might return soon).

A recent issue of Inside Soap says that ratings for Neighbours in Australia have increased and put it at 1.1million viewers a night. Home and Away is at 1.3 million a night.

So do both soaps get more viewers in the UK than they do in their home of Australia?
