Her public speaking roles involved speaking at people which is quite different to communicating and negotiating with people on the same level. People often underestimate how necessary people skills are in business. This appears to be Susan flaw too, although it manifests itself in a different way. Both are used to working for themselves and not answering to anyone. Susan doesn't seem to have enough self awareness and isn't good at articulating the good ideas in her head which results in people thinking she's stupid. And Melody seems to only value her own contribution and misses the bigger picture as a result.
I take your point about public speaking although I presume that in the course of creating and building her company she had to communicate and negotiate with people.

In the words of Mr Kipling she is exceedingly pretty, that makes her likeable
Er no, it means she's pretty. She's attractive when she smiles, and very striking. Likeable as a person, I don't think so!

If you take a look at Melody's website you will see that she offers "skills development training" which is something that many companies offer for free. In fact she recently emailed my organisation offering herself and this service but, as stated we already get this for free or do it ourselves. I suspect that she has ended up volunteering her services, hence the award for volunteering. (and hoping to develop a career out of it, unfortunately there are a lot of people offering this kind of thing)
I find it ironic that she offers to develop skills that she seems not to possess herself (such as teamworking)
