She deliberately sabotaged the task because she took a shine to a teapot she'd never seen. Short-sighted and arrogant.
She made the best of an atrocious hand, and sold respectably, but it was an atrocious hand that she was fully responsible for and lumbered the rest of the team with. Melody single-handedly ruined the entire thing. Tom shouldn't have let her, but sadly he wasn't quite psychic enough to work out she was full of sh*t at that early stage.
He wasn't being vindictive, he was taking in the person who cost him the task. He was the perfect person to sell the car seats, too! He established a rapport with the inventor. Could've easily seized the deal, had it come down to a choice between Venture and Logic.
