I thought it was pretty funny tbh, there always seems to be some North bashing in every episode.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Doubtless Melody would have advised Harvey Nicholls not to open a branch in Manchester, then

Or at least her infallible market research techniques would have suggested they stock up on tripe, clogs and whippet coats.
LOL!

Oh yeah, her market research is second to none

Yep, such outstanding products such as the "lovers lead" ,"sleeping bag suit" and cat "playhouse" I'm sure such innovation would have took off anywhere else in the country rather than the poor old North.......

As soon as she made that comment I thought 'Oh god, shes going to set all the northerners off now'

Funnily enough if she had said the phrase 'southern softie' it wouldnt have got a mention on here.

But I guess southerners tend not to be fixated about their area as those from the lower classes do.

As previous stated I'm against all outdated geographic stereotyping, it shows a lack of common sense and naivety in my opinion, in fact I feel quite embarrassed for the people who try to use it.

And, most importantly, who was the award given by? Awards are only worth the weight of the organisation that doles than out - yet so often people say they've been won this, that and the other award, but conveniently fail to mention by whom.

Did you know I've won the 2011 Most Intelligent DS Forum Poster Of The Year award?

It's true. I've got a certificate and everything to prove it. What? Who was it handed out by? Oh, er,... me!
my dog won an award at a village fete for "the dog with the waggiest tail."

Brilliant - now THAT is an award worth something. Suck on that, Maloderous Horsesh!t

Yep, such outstanding products such as the... "sleeping bag suit"...
You know what? On the evidence of that episode I went out and bought a Lippi Selk (for it is they) sleeping bag. And I have to say that it is honestly the warmest and most comfortable sleeping bag I've ever used. I love it!

All my hardened outdoorsy camping friends tut-tutted and said it would be cold, because you should have all your limbs in the one place, blah blah blah. But it's absolutely fantastic.

I doubt I'll be off to buy a child seat in a rucksack or a teapot-shaped lamp, but that sleeping bag gets an unequivocal thumbs up from me.

Have to say I dont think I've ever seen anything I'd actually buy on there, although I thought the pop up postcards last night were pretty cool!

Lots of hand-wringing and faux indignation over a passing comment.

I live in the South West (in particular, a county so poor it qualified for Objective One funding, the only place in England IIRC), and people like to suggest that we all go around with wheelbarrows of money in our 24 carat Rolls Royces, due to being in "the South". When in fact there are huge differences between the West and East.

But I don't whinge about it.

Trolling or just genuine ignorance here?

Northern does not equal lower class. Join Susan in the dunces corner.

I thought genuine ignorance tbh, surely no one could be that obvious at a trolling attempt?

Trust me I'm not bias towards Manchester because I live there. Plus is a pretty big place. North is different to south as is to east.

I have friends from Europe who have visited and much prefer Manchester, anyway kinda going off the point really. I don't like Paris I found it rough and quite racist

To be fair she is operating at UN level, whatever that means.

As soon as she said that, I knew the professional Northerners would be up in arms. How dare she make ignorant observations and generalisations about the North? That's the preserve of Northerners when talking about London.
Professional Northerners ?

How is that so ? Who pays people to be Northerners ? What are the hours ? Where is the career progression ?

People are up in arms as it was a stupid, ignorant thing to say not through any kind of inferiority complex.

I am not from the North but I found it offensive. It simply perpetuates a stereotype.

What is a professional Northerner?
I can cope with being from the North but it seems other people feel the need to comment upon "THE North" and decide it's full of flat caps , cobbled streets and nothing worth more than 50 pence.
I don't view London as the devil's city , or paved with gold so guess again.

I think that now, most of us soft southern gits - at least those with even a hint of intelligence - refer to 'oop North' in an ironic way. It's rather making fun of the old preconceptions people had of the North.

We expect different regions to gently take the micky out of each other by exaggerating each others accents and suchlike.

I'm not the type of Northerner who can't take a joke. I like calling mancs filthy!

Most people can't even tell where i'm from due to my accent but The Apprentice does have a history of badmouthing THE North.
I remember the episode when a contestant rubbished a very successful shop in Liverpool that had been operating for over 50 years because it was "oop North"!
It's just silly and paints the contestants in a bad light.
