uphill both ways ..... and it was always raining. Oh and the Luftwaffe were still bombing along his route. But he still managed to sell asparagus to the local farmers.

He bangs on about certain things but I don't think he's wildly exaggerating.

His family couldn't afford shoes, so he had to walk barefoot. The road was also paven with broken glass.

Sugar grew up in Hackney (inner city London) - there were probably 10 primary schools and two secondary schools within 15 minutes walk!

His mum and dad both spoke only in Vietnamese so he had to learn the language...and fast!

OMG, Dave, can't believe I'm about to agree with you but YES!!! I was just thinking that the other night when he started with his "When I was 18..." spiel.
