I signed up for the Early Bird discount thingie a couple of days ago.

There's a message “Some videos are not playing back properly. We are currently working on resolving the issue”, so no change there then.

The Flashback features for BB11 & BB12 are still there, and appear not to be geo-blocked, although only the BB11 one seems to be working.

Other videos give the "Oops! We can't find this page" error, which meant last year that it was geo-blocked.
Hotspot Shield worked fine last year, but now with Hotspot Shield running it won't even access the start page https://superpass.real.com/welcome?ssl=true .

I don't know if this is because (a) I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 now and HS apparently isn't 64-bit compatible, or (b) Real have got tighter about detecting anonymous/VPN browsing - Hulu certainly have.

The first Missy & Chelsea show worked fine last night (well, techically - the show was cr*p), but IIRC they were never geo-blocked anyway.

We've got two weeks to experiment! Fan sites saying the cast are sequestered.

Looks like a new version of the BBLite player is on the way too.

I like conspiracy theories ,, so here is mine..

They have shored up the geo blocking, finding all the loop holes and backdoors and closed them off.

Why ?

With no BBUK this year, they where hoping to sell the show into one of the UK channels, terrestrial, or satellite. But no channel was going to buy a leaky ship, it was clear that they would have to be water tight in order to sell.

But then looked for too much cash,, and sent potential buyers running for cover..

The flashback and clips for BB12 are geo-blocked. I'm using a VPN (not Hotspot Shield) and have no problems. The stuff for BB11 is not geo-blocked.

Hey - mindset !
Last year I think you said you were using http://www.acevpn.com/. Are you still using the same one? If so, what package do you use? $5/month is very reasonable.

That doesn't look like a good deal to me, the limits will soon be eaten up by the live feed. Try this link

Hmm, seems like a lot of hassle. I don't understand why they had to go and change things, surely having less people buying the feeds is a bad thing?

Looks like I will have to find an illegal stream again this year.

The BBUSA live feed is restricted to the U.S. You need a VPN (virtual private network) to get around this. They are plentiful, so shop around. Make sure there are no usage limits involved though, the LF will consume a lot. Happy viewing.

I used a VPN when I wanted to watch Ultimate Big Brother last year. It really worked like a snap and was very reasonably priced. So I would completely recommend it to those that want to watch BBUSA this year and need to get around the region coding.

Update on live feed experiments.

1.Confirmed that HotSpot Shield (which a lot of us used last year to get round the geo-blocking) doesn’t work.

2.Found a free VPN. This one works, and is free, but buffers the Superpass videos http://www.freeusvpn.com/ . Might suit someone who just wants the occasional look.
Start > Type VPN in box then the settings on the site. Password changes every 12hrs, which you get from the site.

3.The one Mindset uses and says works OK is in post #7 above; £5/month.

4.I’ve gone with http://www.ibvpn.com/. Premium US+CA package @ $10.95 for 3 months.

5.So total budget to watch BBUS live feed is $29.99 for the Early Bird feed subscription + $10.95 for the VPN = $40.94 = £25.95 (-ish). Everything on the Superpass site, including the Pre-Season interviews and BB11 & 12 flashbacks, work fine with no buffering.

6.ibVPN has a 50% discount - Promotional code: ibVPN50summer – off the quarterly price, reducing your 1st 3 month payment to $5.48, but this expires 1st July, ie today, which is why I’m posting this now. They take Paypal which suited me as I have a bit of dosh in my Paypal account. The quarterly billing at the full rate will re-bill after 3 months, but of course you can cancel after BBUS finishes.

Note when connected with VPN, the UK I-Player, Youtube etc probably won’t work (because it thinks you’re connecting from the US). No torrents allowed. Works with: BB Superpass, Hulu, ABC, CBS, NBC.

7.Anyone else been experimenting? Got any solutions worth sharing?

SBBA... excellent informative post.

Are there any router requirements to use a VPN? I have a 10 year old Linksys router you see.

Their tech support seems OK if your router settings need a bit of tweaking.

That is an amazing deal! Just over £1 a month for a year. Wow.

ibVPN working fine. Got the 3 months US+CA VPN (01/07/2011 - 30/09/2011) $10.95 USD
using code ibVPN50summer - 50.00% One Time Discount so paid $5.48 USD

HG interviews in Superpass and on CBS site all working OK. Videos sometimes pause when using IE, but not when I use Firefox.
My email doesn't work when the VPN is connected (in fact it receives but won't send) but that's not too much of an issue.
At first it wouldn't work at all, but I emailed them and the next morning it was fine - maybe they did something at their end.

Anyone tried any other solutions?

Thanks for the info SBBA, your posts helped last year too with the geo-blocking.

I don't understand why they've geo-blocked the feeds again. Obviously they don't want my money, so I won't be giving it to them!

Tomorrow (Weds) is your last chance to buy the live feeds at $10 off. Click to it from your favourite BBUS fan site, as they get a kick-back from Real, which helps with their funding.

Superpass have redesigned their site.
Connecting without a VPN now gives a "Please Stand By" message rather than the old "Oops we can't find that page."

I'm watching Ragan's Rumor Control show now. The content isn't up to much, but it's working fine technically.

BigBroLiveFeeds tweet

You need to update your flash player to 10.3 and restart your browser to see #RumorControl #BB13 #SuperPass

I guess that means if it isn't working,
Download Flash Player from www.adobe.com

The Big Brother Lite live stream viewer is now available for download:
http://bigbrotherlite.com/

If it's at least as good as last year's version it's much better than the Superpass viewer.

C4 did the same with their live feed (when they had one). It's probably an attempt by Endomol to protect territorial BB franchises. But it's easy and cheap to get around, so to them!

I got the earlybird deal. The prospect of evel dick and brenchel in the house together would be too good to miss. I'm using Hotspot sheild and everything works fine for me. No geoblocking. Just watched Rumour control on the superpass big brother site just now. Even the flashback is working aswell.

Is hotspot sheild working for anyone else?

It must have been my bad laptop but I bought the feeds for BB11 and they were rarely playable. I remember having a night that was perfect, everyone huddling round talking about the veto competition!

I tuned in for the first endurance competition, the one with the diploma, and it was so choppy and pixelated I couldn't even tell who was who. I remember subscribing to the feeds, excited to try them out and at first assumed the continued problem/lag was because I was in the UK. I had read that several others in the UK were using them fine, so after this bad experience I didn't buy them again for BB12.

The geo-block does seem unnecessary, surely they want to sell them as much as possible.
