Recalculated distances - I think it was 1991 when all racecourses were remeasured and some of the race distances found to be incorrect.

For example somebody mentioned upthread, possibly myself, that the Derby trip is 1 mile 4 furlongs. However upon remeasuring the course in 1991 it was discovered that the field had been covering 1 mile 4 furlongs and 10 yards since nobody knows when. Anyway, this is now the official distance of the Classic.

Examples abound amongst the racing programmes of the other 59 tracks.

Wildenstein, Daniel - French art dealer whose family still owns more Old Masters than you can shake a stick at.

Owner of (in alphabetical order) All Along, Allez France, Arcangues, Peintre Celebre and Sagace, plus a shed load of other top class horses.

A very bad loser who had various disagreements with, and dispensed with the services of (also in alphabetical order) Patrick-Louis Biancone, Henry Cecil, André Fabre, John Hammond, Elie Lellouche, Angel Penna and Peter Walwyn.

Ginistrelli, Edoardo - owner, trainer & breeder of 1908 Derby and Oaks winner Signorinetta.

The dam of Signorinetta was a very good mare called Signorina and, pausing only to pick up my violin:

Quote:
“At the same stables in Newmarket was a horse called Chaleureux, a nine guinea stallion, which was used as a teaser i.e his job was to detect when mares came into season. Ginistrelli noticed that Signorina neighed to Chaleureux each day when he passed her box on his exercise round. Mr Ginistrelli decided the two horses were in love and let them mate...Ginistrelli based his decision on the "boundless laws of sympathy and love". Signorinetta was the resultant foal.”

Let all those suckers who paid over £300,000 for a nomination to Storm Cat eat their hearts out.
