Man o' War. Owned by August Belmont Junior, the final leg of the US Triple Crown was named after his father. The horse, so named by the owner's wife as he joined the US army to serve in France in WWI at the age of 65, won 20 of his 21 starts and $250,000 in prize money in 1919 and 1920.

Rockfel - filly foaled 1935 and trained by the quixotically named Captain Oswald Marmeduke Dalby Bell.

The horse ran unplaced in a seller at two before winning the 1,000 Guineas, Oaks and Champion Stakes the following season.

In commemoration, the Rockfel Stakes is a Group 2 event at Newmarket which has its 30th renewal tomorrow.
