Ulysses - classic novel by James Joyce in which the action takes place inside 24 hours.

The day the author chooses is 16 June 1904, Ascot Gold Cup day. Who backs what horse in the race and why is a subject of some mistrust in the book, as several characters are on the beaten filly Sceptre but are subsequently led to believe the protagonist had the 20/1 winner Throwaway, which he didn't tip them.

It's complicated.

And thereafter not a half bad trainer. I didn't know about his son.

Hard Ridden....Derby winner in the fifties with Charlie Smirke aboard and thereafter a half decent stallion.
