Just to see what you think of this idea, I often feel when watching the hour long episode that we don't quite enough depth on what goes on during the tasks and you really have to pay very close attention if you want to be able to follow all the small nuances of the way it is going for each team and candidate. The way it flicks so effortlessly between what each team is doing makes it a bit hard to follow I end up forgetting who's on which team and then it becomes hard to get a grip on who's making the most outstanding blunders. Think a different thought for a few seconds and that can be enough to miss something vital that they are later absolutely slaughtered for in the boardroom. Or maybe I am just quite thick and need my programmes more spoon fed to me in nice little soundbites that even I will understand, either way I think I have a solution.
If The Apprentice was to go to a 2 episodes a week format we could have;
Wednesdays 9pm
The task, a more in depth programme that only covers every part of the tasks and throws in a few hints here and there as the programme already does so cleverly about what the way it might have gone and the suspense is built for the result the next day and the producers leave it on some sort of cliffhanger. With a longer episode devoted to the task they could stay with each team for much longer before flicking back to the other ones progress so you could get a much clearer picture of what's going on.
We then have
Thursdays 9pm
The results and the boardroom, it's possible that this could be just 30 minutes, or if there are corporate clients and pitches, these parts could spill over to this episode which would extend to an hour and the boardroom could go in the last half hour.
I don't know about any of you but I often feel that we could see more material from the tasks than we do and that that whole part of the programme often just seems to go by in a blur. The extra time the programme would get could also be used to show a bit more of the relationships between the candidates in the house as well, in addition to a bit more time given to the treats. The only downside I can see is that now when you watch The Apprentice, you watch an episode that builds towards its result with not even an advert break in the way. An alternative idea could also be to extend the one main programme to 90 minutes each week. Would doubling the airtime of The Apprentice be something you'd like to see?
