Has solar activity knocked out the satellites?

Has this finally happened?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8494225.stm

Just got back from a drive from Cumbria to Cheshire, and the built in car sat nav had hardly any signal for the whole drive, just 2 satellites located.

Got home and tried my phone and the wifes phone, which normally see quite a few sats when you look at the GPS data, but they're only seeing 3 or 4, a lot less than normal.

It's clear skies everywhere in every direction.

Though it's possible, it could also just be a lot of other things.

Article linked to is over a year old. There is still low sunspot activity.

Well I'm happy to report they all kind of re-appeared at 11ish last night.

I read there was some intense geo-magnetic storms in the atmosphere yesterday, probably that getting in the way.

Where did you read that?

According to this site there was nothing over the last 24 hours. There was a modest CME on the 21st June, but the effects from that were minor and seem to have passed.
