My question is: what happened to general knowledge? The Apprentice this week was shocking, with a bunch of graduates appearing to think Christopher Columbus was English. I was screaming at the box. And your late night convo hasn't helped!!

'That book' is one of the most famous ever written. It is up there with the Bible, War and Peace and Oliver Twist. Of course most people have heard of it, and I don't just mean Spaniards.

To carry on in educational mode, the phrase 'tilting at windmills' comes from this great and famous book. Poor Don Quixote thought that windmills were giants and that he should kill them! It is a funny book.
I must confess to a certain shock at the lack of knowledge displayed last night. But hell, classic literature is totally off topic, so I will move on!

I know, my father told me that. That wrong interpretation of his has become (i think) the most well known part of the book.

Well The Bible, War and Peace and Oliver Twist are definitely well known, but I can guarantee you that the vast majority of people under the age of 30 will not know what Don Quixote is...except for the Spanish.
