Tonight's EE....
Well, I know he was only part of it, but Tyler lived down to my expectations
…… I don’t really understand.
.
How can EE provide some subtle, nuanced storylines (like Syed’s epic struggle to accept himself (see, on-topic, kinda
), or recently, Janine and Lydia’s last scenes for example*), but then they choose to introduce Tyler in this week with such an unsubtle, in your face, predictable way –so many clichés –the car, 4 blond conquests in scarcely 2 episodes, parading in his boxers, drinking, swaggering, phone no. written in lipstick…..Are we meant to be swooning?!
. I’d not be fawning over him like his ‘admirers’ crowding round him in the Vic, quite the reverse. Arrogance is not an attractive quality!
Each to their own and all that, but I thought EE credit their audience with a bit more intelligence than this OTT introduction? Or are we meant to be recoiling in eeeuuugh?
Perhaps the poor guy has hidden depths and a tortured soul under the brash exterior
, but purrlease. If the character is just ‘full of it’ and out for fun, I'm not loving it yet! I guess they have to start somewhere, so I'll wait and see, but it feels like a bit of a sledgehammer approach so far. I guess he's made an impression anyway! I hope they give the actor and the character something more interesting to do pdq.
(*loved those Janine scenes with Lydia and after Lydia’s death in gay bar week btw –Charlie Brooks is brilliant to watch, subtleties or big drama, especially her scene of disbelieved desperation in the Vic afterwards ..‘I was just getting to know her, getting to know myself”
).
Anyway, I missed the little thrill tonight of awaiting Chryed or Masoods at any moment, not quite sure when they're about to appear!
