Calorie contents that surprised you
What food's calorie content have surprised you?
My latest was a small Belgian Bun I saw in Tesco's - 430 calories. I thought, it's basically sweet bread and icing and the fat content reflects this. I buy a 2 pack of bigger ones from Asda, eat them and then still have lunch as well as that. I thought they were around 300 calories each! There's been ones the other way too, where I've thought "I thought it would contain more calories than that" By the way, I had a brief period of remorse over my gluttony, but still bought my weekly treat from Asda and had them with some cherries to balance things out! |

We had cakes in the office for a birthday, all sorts of ones and the one with the most calories in was the Tartes Aux Fruits. Was quite surprised by that.

My friend sent over these chocolate, maple syrup biscuit things from Canada. They were pretty big and absolutely delicious. I looked at the packet expecting each one to be at 200kcals, but to my surprise and delight they were only 50kcals each. I didn't understand how something so yummy and sweet could be so low in calories.

A pretzel from Pret a Manger: 371 calories
http://www.pret.com/menu/bakery/pretzel_PUK938.shtm Bread Pretzels in general are surprisingly calorific Also, 'posh' dark chocolate can be massively high in fat, because when they display the %age cocoa solids on the packet manufacturers are allowed to include the cocoa butter/fats http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Produ.../?id=266724456 (50% fat) http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/grocerie...=1309454330223 (47% fat) |

Harvester
If you go to a Harvester, you will find that the menu now gives the calorific content of everything they serve (other than the salad). Most of it is quite frightening!!

Make sure you're reading the label properly. I bought a bottle of fresh lemonade and only quickly scanned the label and was quite pleased to see it only had 100 cals..when I sat down to wash down my lunch I re read the label it was 100 cals PER 100ml and the bottle was 500 ml!
So I buy diet |

Not every day, try to cut it out some days, but it's so darn addictive.
I'd say on average 8 litres a week, no urine change But when I necked a litre bottle of Tesco Cranberry energy drink it made my wee glow in the dark! |

Innocent Smoothies. Huge amounts of calories in them, more than in a can of coke.
