The Saturdays vs. The Wanted
I was watching The Wanted on TV the other day and I was thinking : although they were created by the same people as The Saturdays, how have they had a Number 1 whilst The Saturdays haven't?
Here are my random thoughts: ... 1) The Saturdays do constantly great songs whilst The Wanted songs are boring, predictable and trying to be "a la mode" 2) Every one of The Saturdays are "fit" but there are a few members of The Wanted who look like they just stumbled onto stage (the ugly one from Nottingham springs to mind) 3) The Saturdays (minus Molly) are all good singers and share the lines equally but having heard The Wanted live, only the "Manchester" lad seems to sing and the others do contrived harmonies. And whilst Vanessa seems to do the most high notes and good singing, the best singer of The Wanted seems to be the really young one. Why is that?! 4) I can see the commercial appeal for The Saturdays (girls, teenagers gays, and Dads can like them), but The Wanted seem to be only for little girls. They seem to have a hold in the gay market but they are all so young! Any comments to my "venting" are apreciated ![]() PS. I'm not a Saturdays fan ironically, just a "music observer! |

I don't know why the Wanted would have a following based on looks because none of them are fantastic looking...

Cause they're a boyband, have you not seen the success of JLS?

I meant to add there have been quite a lot of boybands who have come and gone over the last decade like V and some X Factor bands I think, so I really don't get how The Wanted have lasted for more than a few singles

In fairness, because everyone's about to slate The Wanted - though I don't like their music, Max, Nathan and Tom have really good voices and Jay has a decent one, though Siva’s is weak. Plus, they sing live most of the time from what I've seen, and at least 3 of them can play instruments.
I'd say Vanessa is the only member of The Saturdays with a really good voice, Rochelle and Una have decent ones and Mollie and Frankie are poor. If I'm not mistaken, only Una can play an instrument and they often mime. I know it doesn't answer the question as to why they've had a number one when The Saturdays haven't (though imo, neither of them have deserved one based on their material) and it probably is down to them being a boyband, but as someone who isn't a fan of either of them I just thought I'd be objective as I know there's a lot of Saturdays fans on here and the forum in general tends to be more harsh on boybands. |

In my university though it's mainly the business and economics students (of which I'm one) who love The Sats.

I think it's a lot, lot easier for Boybands to succeed than it is girlbands.
Minus the obvious girl bands we all know about.. Boy bands seem to just have to look good to have a following. Girls often take a dislike to other girls very easily. Plus girlbands often have a stigma attached to them by which they can't sing. I personally believe The Saturdays deserve a number one just for contributing some great pop (Ego, Higher, and Up all spring to mind). |

Also, you have to remember that the Wanted received near enough constant promotion on the Captial and Heart radio stations. |

Not a big fan of The Wanted but I've seen them interviewed and they all seem really nice and ,bar the wierd tall one with the prominent cheek bones, they can all sing and my sister is really obsessed with the little one that looks like Justin Bieber (Nathan?). I really like "Glad You Came" but not crazy on other released they have done. At times it's quite good having a 13-year old sister as I've heard their album withut actually having to go out and yes its different but nothing spectacular. I can see how they appeal to teen girls (who I think are the majority music buyers) as none of them are excatly "ugly"
I really do quite like The Saturdays which is wierd because there not to my taste at all. I like my pop with older late 90's stuff but I'm more of an alternative music fan really. I think songs like Up, Ego, Higher and Karma are excellent. They're not Girls Aloud and they never will be as I don't think they really engage with the public very well although that may have changed a bit since their fly on the wall series aired. We knew Girls Aloud because we'd seen them audition through a reality series so knew their personalities quite well and they were able to stand out on their own. The Sats on the other hand, though I'm a fan, I probobaly couldnt tell you which was Una or which was Rochelle Overall, The Wanted got a #1 because they are a boyband and althogh that restricts their popularity in other demographics it makes them massively popular with teenage girls who seem to account for a lot of music sales therefore eclipsing all other demographics. The reason The Saturdays have yet to score a number one is because they release weaker lead singles (If This Is Love, Forever Is Over, Missing You and I think Notorious will be seen as a weak choice), beg for a #1 and it comes across desperate. They then release some killer tunes (Up, Ego or Higher) which have the potential to go to #1 but don't |

Having seen them both live at a local festival, they were both equally okay, but had different merits.
The Wanted had the best overall package but were poor on live vocals. The Saturdays were very poor at audience interaction and atmosphere but had very good live vocals, almost artificially so to be honest. So I'm not a fan of either. |

The music from both acts is painfully dull and quite shit, but I'll give the edge to The Saturdays because I like Up and Mollie King's right breast is really nice to see on the Daily Mail website. I like how she's not flashing it on purpose, it just makes it sexier and dare I say a bit naughty too.

I like both bands, but isn't it obvious that alot of girls love The Wanted and buy their songs in their droves? something which The Saturdays don't have.
Girls fancy The Wanted = more records bought. You only have to glance at the Wanted on twitter to realise this. |

The reason I think the wanted have sold more, gotten a number one etc is because they have a very high regard for their fans, in that they use a lot of social networking, also combined with the fact that boybands appeal to young girls (of which their are many) means they get very high sales, the saturdays on the other hand are popular, but young girls wont find them "cute" or "fit" and so that is why they havent got that number 1 yet, girls find other girls threatening.

I've said it before, but The Wanted just look like a bunch of misfits who were discovered working in a branch of Topman.
The only one to actually look like a boyband member is the one with the very short hair. The others don't fit atall. The Saturdays are pretty talanted but try much too hard. They are soon releasing their 3rd album in as many years... take a break! |

All we can learn from this threat is that The Wanted have only done well due to expensive promotion and lots of money paid to promote them through Commercial Radios etc (cncbwatcher should have perhaps picked up on that!)
