The BBC are broadcasting tennis in 3D but it appears to be encoded. Does any one know how to save and play on a PC?

Most likely a protected recording.

Had to manually switch my TV into 3D mode and except for the fast panning it is not so bad.

And like the movies they have the round logo in screen centre heading towards you.

Record it in SD with a DVD recorder and then watch it in Stereoscopic Player or StereoMovie maker. Not HD but it works.

P.S. It's hardly worth the effort. The BBC have gone the 3D Lite route just as I feared. The only shots that were even worth doing are the shots across the court (although the audience looks strangely flat behind the 3D foreground) and the Wimbledon ball Logo coming at you. The main shot behind the server is poor and has little depth. Who calibrates these cameras? Have they ever seen a classic 3D movie like House of Wax, Creature From the Black Lagoon or Friday the 13th part 3 in 3D? In this day and age of extremes why are we being subjected to 3D lite? We want more depth not less. I can handle getting a heading in order to go "wow" while watching 3D. Let's hope they can re-calibrate the cameras for the Live feed.

So far my score would be 4 out of 10....with the couple of decent 3D shots as 7 out of 10

It's a normal fta transmission. I recorded clips from it using non-freesat mode on my Foxsat-hdr to have a play with making stereoscopic stills.

I Couldn't agree more. Poor effort from the BBC. Only the close in shots are good, and it's fair to say that 3D long distance is a challenge, but they could do it if they tried.

You have to reboot the box while it's in non-freesat before it will record without encryption.

my views on the 3d tennis, watching on my technisat box was pretty much unwatchable as the far right hand side of the screen was showning on the left hand side about a quarter of an inch if that makes sense, for eg the white line of the court on the right was viewable on the left side, you could get rid of this by changing the 3d viewpoint to -5 but then you didnt get much depth
on my humax box didnt get the above but the graphics didnt really come out of the screen very much, not very impressed
the bbc hd channel on my tv integrated channel 54,absolutely sensational brilliant picture graphics out of the screen etc
sky box exceptional same as bbc hd channel integrated in to tv so its strange how with 4 different sources you get such varying results isnt it
also on freeview hd when you go to channel 54 you get the option of watching the tennis in 2d or 3d on the bbc hd channel where as on satellite if you put the bbc hd channel on you cannot watch tennis in 2d like you can on freeview hd unless you want to watch 2 pictures of the tennis in 2d of course
in essence if you dont have a 3d tv you dont lose the bbc hd channel for a few hours like you do on freesat/sky

I also had a narrow strip on the far left.
Not a tennis fan and the novelty wore off after ten minutes.

No problem with my foxsat-hdr and Sony TV, the single frame captures were all 1920 x 1080 and fit 100% on my Sony with overscan turned off.

One more thing Graham, I though that one could select a program to record from the EPG in NON-Freesat mode, but when i do, it says "Not avaiable" Is there another trick I have forgotten ???

I am not sure how much is BBC and How much is Sony
(and also how much is 2D up converted so to say)

But there is very little 3D in a long shot in any case - basic optics ...

Having watched a fair amount of 3D material I have never found that it regularly offered a constant WOW effect over good HD ... and in may cases the technicalities of cameras not matching were a detracting factor. (I think this will only go away when the cameras are virtual!)

If you think of films liike Avatar or Ice Age there is very little "deep" 3D except for certain effects sequences .

In any case there are about 8 cues we use to determine depth and stereopsis is about number 8 ( may be 7).
so do we need it ????

You can't set a recording timer in non-freesat. You have to initiate recordings manually.

were you using a technisat hdfs freesat box automan that your getting the bit down the left side of screen im on about as its my technisat that i get the stripe on
my foxsat hd box fills the screen ok,no strip down the left but the graphics dont pop out much not like it does on freeview hd or from my sky hd box, they both looked sensational

You have to use a drive formatted in EXT3 (LINUX)

FAT file systems have a maximum file size of 1 byte less than 4GB.

This will format the drive for you

http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm

Having done that to read the drive in windows you need a EXT3 driver.

I have done this, however my USB 32Gbyte drive is not accepted by the Foxsat-HDR, says it needs to be ext3 ????

However I did another hard disc and that seems to be working, why the USB device does not work !!!!

The hdr is very fussy about pen drives, never tried mine with anything other than FAT32 ones. I have a 1TB EXT3 archive drive in a slot in caddy permanently connected to the rear usb port.

This turning out to be some exercise !!

I have installed and run the various applications. So far so good.

I have copied a video file, 9Gbytes to an EXT3 disc. so far so good.

I have connected the disc to my PC and I can see the 9Gbyte files, but it won't let me copy it to any other folder. I says " Cannot file file " etc etc...

I have Ext2 Volume Mgr running...what else am I missing

They don't make it easy do they

The filenames have wierd characters embedded that give this result. I tried similar with the Royal Wedding. In the end had to run Linux as Root to rename the damn things

Not tried it so can't say. Currently no permanent network connection to my hdr. Also not tried using the hdrs recording rename capability before copying the files.

Hopefully REPASSAC will be reading this thread and will know the answer.
