And only 69p! Their Macon Village wine is good as well at £4.99.

Aldi and Lidl do very good value north Atlantic frozen prawns and smoked salmon. Prawns, which actually have flavour, rather than the tropical flavourless equivalent.

I had one of their current specials - Cheddar Quarterpounders - for tea last night. Very tasty.

I'm normally a Waitrose/Morrisons shopper but I swung by Aldi on my way home last night - what a pleasant experience! Wide aisles and a very clean store.

Avocados for 39p!

I bought the coleslaw and OP, you are right! This is lovely stuff, nearly as nice as Waitrose but 1/3 of the price. I also picked up some Peri Peri chicken, chorizo, sliced Maasdam, tuna fillets in garlic sauce, ciabatta rolls and baby baked potatoes.

I have just had a roll with chorizo and Maasdam and that's a winner.

I will be back to Aldi for sure. I am so surprised at how good the quality is considering how cheap it is. Oh dear, I am such a food snob

I've often heard chefs say that if you wouldn't drink and enjoy a wine, you shouldn't cook with it, i.e. cheap plonk is no good for cooking,

Be careful with their piri piri chicken. It comes in mild which I find too mild and sweet or hot which is around vindaloo strength, lol. Also don't bother cooking it in the microwave, make sure you use the oven.

Be careful in more ways than one - we had them last week and whilst opening the bag.....let's just say it doesn't half smart when the sauce gets you right in the eye!! Did our big shop there last week instead Morrisons (bf usually does the shopping - bit of a food snob!) and he hasn't even noticed any difference..and we saved over £10 and that was including little treats and snacks

I had them tonight, i was expecting a "kiev" style affair which could have been messy, but the cheese and chives rubbed into the meat was as you say, very tasty. The man from del Notts, he says yes!

Not if you shop in Morrisons!

So they say. But believe me their Merlot and Chardonay are just fine for the job. Anyway, if I've paid £8-£10 for wine, there's no way I'm bunging it in a recipe!

It's clearly not odd in some areas but in London it's unusual to find an Aldi on the high street. My theory was that they wouldn't be able to sell at low prices if they had to pay London rents.

Well for most recipes you wouldn't use the whole bottle, say if you were de-glazing the pan to make a jus. I wouldn't use cheap plonk for that and serve it with a fillet steak, that would defeat the object.

I love many things form Aldi

I LOVE their prepared meals in those large deep black bowls in their chiller section
ALL the rice combos are deelish
and the lasagne and pasta meals

I also ABSOLUTELY love their equivalent of Fruit n Fibre [Harvest ??] cereal in ~the large boxes

their fresh fruit and veg are aslo good

and Aldi always have very interesting bargains in the non food sections

I don't often go to them ~as they are just a bit further away
but I Always fill my trolley when I do

The pets all love the cat and dog foods I get from there toooooooo

A new Aldi opened up at the end of my road about a month ago and I love it - getting seriously addicted. The only trouble is that it might be cheap but I still spend lots as I go in for a couple of things and always end up buying loads !!

Their 'Oakhurst' Lamb quarter pounder burgers are to die for and they actually taste of Lamb.

Wouldn't know about the cat litter as I've never tasted it.

Well, I'm a shopping tart. I'll shop anywhere! Must admit though, I do have the time to shop around.

Most of their stuff is good but their salt and vinegar crisps are the worst I've ever had, taste like chemicals.

The fruit and veg, whilst cheap seems to go bad quite quickly.

I also didn't like their crinkle cut crisps. They were too hard and lacked flavour.
