Transferring Garageband files to a Mac

Hi, my son and I both have short tunes composed Garageband on my iPad and I would like to transfer mine to a desktop so that I can add real bass and guitar. Anyone know how this might be done. I have connected the iPad to my laptop and switched on manual use of files but I can't see anywhere where the garageband files might be stored.

I think you connect your iPad to iTunes. Click the App tab, then scroll right to the bottom of the page to the file transfer section. Click Garageband then chose the file(s).
