Just got into the Batman films BUT know that directors always like to twist stories to how they like it... so could I ask how did the following villians turn into their personas... I have many more questions to ask but these will do for now!

The Joker - How did he turn into a clown and why does he hate Batman soo much? Who was he before he became The Evil Clown?

Scarecrow - Is he a main bad guy in the orginal comments or just a plot device to prolong the comic books... why is he a Scarecrow?

The Riddler - I don't know anything about him apart from that Jim Carrey played him well... any background history?

Bain - I heard he broke Batmans back! Was he a main baddie and how did he turn into him?

Poison Ivy - What is her purpose in the comic books? How did she turn into poisin?

Peguin - What was his purpose, why was he a penguin lol

Mr Freeze - Was he a orginal Batman baddie and why was he turned into ice?

Catwoman - Was Catwoman a villian or good girl? I always remember her sometimes helping Batman

Robin and Batwoman - Where did they come from and how many years did it take for them to enter the comics? Did they have any family? I never really knew anything about these 2 above and why Batman let them even help him and learn his identity...

methinks thems are some big-big questions and too big to answer here. Have you looked at wikipedia because having done a quick google for "wikipedia batman" then searched the page for Bane I've got a most detailed page up giving a most detailed history+more of the Venom drinking badie.

I know I just cant be bothered having to read for mountains of words just to get the basic facts! haha

Catwoman.

She's good or bad, depending on how she feels that day. She's not a serious baddie, at least not in recent years.

She's pretty much always danced to her own tune in a grey area, but Bats sure does like her *l*

there've been at least 5 Robins over the years so which one are you interested in ?!

but as for Catwoman - well she ain't either, differing writers having differing takes on the character.

I suggest you make yo'self a pot of coffee, buy in a bucket load of chicken and/or cookies and indulge(?) in a mammoth wikipediing sesh - you know you REALLY want to.

I loved the Bane story. It's donkeys years since I last read it but it went something like this. Bane was a drugged up muscle man. He beat up Batman and deliberately broke his back. I recall his line when he saw Bruce Wayne later at some event in a wheelchair and said something like, even in clear view you can't hide from me Batman. But Bruce has a Batman protege called Azrael who seems to instinctively be able to develop personal combat tech. Plus he can fight. He takes on Bane and defeats him but Azrael himself's a loose cannon and a newly fit Bruce has to go after him...

Bane is super-smart and works out that Bruce Wayne is Batman before breaking his back - the line is from some point when he is looking at Bruce in a crowd and he mentions that Batman cannot hide from him.

Just spreading the Batman love is all. 'Batman and Robin' made us Bane fans a little big defensive is all as they took the man to equal and beat the Bat and made him a brainless piece of meat. Hopefully Chris Nolan won't be making the same mistake in Dark Knight Rises

I should add that there have also been other Robin's since Dick Grayson. When Dick outgrew the Robin identity and became Nightwing, a kid named Jason Todd took over but didn't work out too well. Tim Drake (now Red Robin) was the third, and Damien Wayne (Bruce's recently discovered natural son) is the current Robin.

Bruce had a son?

^not by choice, and Damien's existence is the one thing I truly despise about the DC Universe.

Why Damien?

Don't forget Stephanie Browns run as Robin. It was a brief run but indeed a girl has been Robin in the main continuity too

(Grayson, Todd, Drake, Brown, Drake (again), Wayne)

One of big bugbares(?) with movies and tv is when they have a storyline thus:

woman get pregnant to a good man, woman doesn't tell man, woman goes off, has baby, still doesn't tell man, 10+years later child is thrust onto man and he's expected to be (demanded to be) completely and immediately ok with this and is not allowed one ounce, one micro-gram of pssed off ness, or anger at the woman for denying him those 10 years of fatherhood and all the wondrous experiences that come with bringing a new life into the world. And you'll get the woman justifying her actions with phrases such as "well you weren't ready" or "I didn't want to stop you from going off to do XXXX", etc... kinda missing the point that it should have been HIS decision.

Any film or tv show that has this arc (Gilmore Girls did it, a film starring the Rock did it, many-many have done it and will do it), well any that do I go completely off and won't watch no-mo.

Back to Damien, him being conceived in a lab without Bruces permission and/or knowlege, and brought up without Bruces knowledge, well THAT'S just worse, and also him being such a damn brat, well I just want nuttin to do with him.

Why soo many different versions... is it the films or actual comics that keep changing history?

Both. I take it you're not at all familiar with long-running American superheroes if you're in any way surprised with all the retroactive changes and total reboots?

it's not just history being rewritten, sometimes they just grow up and want to go out on their own, so give up the Robin mantel and form one of their own; and sometimes they're put in peril as a publicity stunt with readers able to vote on their fate - and when death is chosen so ends their run in the Robin costume.

While Batman's history has occasionally been tweaked, none of these multiple characters are a case of changing history-the different Robins aren't different versions of one character, they're actually different characters altogether. Dick Grayson graduated and became Nightwing, so Jason Todd took over as Robin. Then Jason apparently died, so Tim took over. And so on. In over 70 years of publication, you have to expect characters to develop and change over time.

Ok so did BATMAN change from Bruce at any point... why not end the comics at Bruce and Robins natural end?

Well considering he was about 30 in 1940 that would have been a long time ago.
