If you can upload at 44KBs/s, it would take 41 hours to upload 6.49GBs.

As far as I know only BT have fibre with a 10GB limit, STOP PRESS, just had a look and they have upped it to a 20GB limit on their cheapest fibre package which is still a ridiculous amount to be offering anyone these days and only designed to catch the unwary.
BT in my opinion were always a greedy company and this demonstrates it, they (Openreach) run the network but competitors consistently offer better deals.

Not really. Even the ADSL copper only connections can mostly give about 10Mbits+. Fibre still needs to reach a load more cabinets in Britain though.

The post said 44kbs not 44kBs so that makes it 8 times as long so about 13 days and 16 hours

The only thing I can think of apart from a virus is if you are using torrents and leaving them on after you have downloaded, while the torrent is on you will be uploading. Skype if not closed properly from the taskbar will be using some as well.

Are you living in the sticks a long way from your telephone exchange ? whether you are or not stick your postcode into SAM and see if anything better is available. If you are on a limited download package have a look at an unlimited package ... most are standard now.

He said 44kb/s, not KB/s, 6.5GB would indeed take about 12 days.

Quite a few on here get kb mixed up with KB. I assumed that was the case here. If they did actually mean kb, fair enough. 5.5 Kilobytes upload for broadband is atrocious. That's why I thought they were getting mixed up.

Yes change your provider unless you have been renewing your contract with them for some reason. If you have not then you are out of contract and can leave at any time without penalty. Move to an unlimited package with another company for instance Sky who are doing a 1 year contract and just pay the line rental, you get free broadband and free weekend calls (I think).
My daughter went online with this package yesterday, as she is close to the exchange she is already getting 16MB download which is very good but looking at her download SNR at 6.9 I know in a week's time she will be getting much faster.

Sorry gone off topic ... put your postcode into SAM and see what alternative providers that are available with unlimited download, probably most of them. Look at their deals.
