ITunes library no longer recognises Ipod Nano

Hi

For the past week or so, whenever I plug in my Ipod Nano to the USB my ITunes library says that it doesn't recognise my Ipod anymore.
My computer still recognises it is an Ipod and charges the battery up, but I haven't been able to put any new tracks from the library onto the Ipod.
It suggests uninstalling ITunes and reinstalling it if the problem persists (which it is), but I don't want to lose everything from the library or from my Ipod.

Does anyone know anything I may have done to have caused the library not to recognise my Ipod?
I've done all the latest updates.
Any suggestions???

Thanks for any help xxx

Uninstalling iTunes doesn't lose your media files on the PC so don't worry if you have to go down this route.

Try following this first - http://www.instructables.com/id/What...nize-your-iPo/

Thanks, I'll have a tinker about with that then.
