Wireless Music Streaming
We sat outside yesterday having a barbecue. The only thing missing was a little music.
Indoors we use Sonos to stream music from our NAS or radio from the internet, but I would like something similar outside. The obvious answer is the Sonos S5 but as you can see it isn't exactly cheap and I can't justify the cost for the little use it would get. Anyone any ideas or experience of alternatives? |

How about something from the Pure Flow range like the Evoke Flow which you can add a second speaker (Pure S1) for stereo output?

That's just a radio though - I already have a Pure Evoke DAB radio in the greenhouse.

Why not use a laptop connected to amplified speakers.

No the Flow version (see my previous link) can stream music over wi-fi from a server which is what you require and also connect to internet radio.
It does mention streaming music from a PC, however my music is stored on a NAS - I'll check to see if it can stream from it. Thanks for that - I like my Pure Evoke and the Flow looks good. |

Found this on the Pure Support site: Quote:
Can I use a NAS box with a Flow radio? Yes, sometimes. NAS boxes are often used on home networks as ‘media servers’ that store everything from photographs to music collections and movies and because it’s on the network any other media playing device on the same network can access the stored media and play it. Flow radios are media players and can play music stored on a NAS box, and it do this by being ‘served’ the music by the NAS box. The NAS box becomes a ‘media server’ and the Flow radio becomes a ‘media player’ If you want a Flow radio to play the contents of a NAS box you must make sure the NAS box supports the ‘uPnP protocol’. If it doesn’t support uPnP then it won’t work with a Flow radio. Quote:
Here you'll find a list of NAS (Network Attached Storage) boxes that are known to work well with PURE internet radios. The list has been compiled based on feedback from PURE customers using these boxes. Not all have been tested and confirmed here at PURE but this should give you a good starting point if you are looking at NAS support.

I'm sorry, your right, I will look further into that.

That looks promising - it's a WD My Book Live 1TB NAS I have.
Amazon do the Flow for £75! |

A laptop should be able to access your NAS using WiFi. That's the whole point of using one, anything in your workgroup should be able to stream from it.
I just want something I can pick up and carry outside and plug and play without faffing about with a laptop and active speakers. Lazy or what?

Roberts (another brand I like) do this
Reading the reviews, someone with the same NAS running a Twonky server said it worked out of the box. |

Radio aside, how is streaming from the home network to the Avanti Flow (I'm assuming you're streaming wirelessly?)
