Interesting despite all the talk of New Tricks being only watched by oldies it was 4th in 18-49's.
Only Top Gear, Luther and The Apprentice had more. Also 4.13m ABC1's second only to The Apprentice. |

e,g, June 2010, BBC HD had a 0.6% share (across all hours), due largely to the World Cup, BBC One simulcasts. |

Do you know what the figures would be with +1, please?

And do the 2010 figures for BBC One include HD simulcasts on the BBC HD channel (as BBC One HD didn't exist then)?
The problem is that this time last year, HD shares were reported separately by most data sources so it's difficult to get definite primetime shares at that time of the year. As you can see, most months it was only a marginal 0.1-0.3% difference as HD wasn't as big back then, although the World Cup month did have a bigger boost. In terms of fairer y-o-y comparisons, they'll come from August onwards for ITV1 and November onwards for BBC1. But those primetime shares are probably the best we can get hold of for the moment to do any kind of year-on-year comparisons, since it's virtually impossible to get the HD channels' primetime shares for that period of time, and even if we did there'd be the issue of the fact that BBC HD used to show non-BBC1 programming on there too so you couldn't just add the two sets of figures together. |

With +1, ITV1 would be about 0.5% higher.
The 2010 figures don't include the BBC HD simulcast, which would've put the 2010 BBC1 shares about 0.2% higher most months (and up to 0.5% more for June since the World Cup was popular on HD). So in reality, BBC1 was actually down vs. last year in June. As for ITV1, April to June 2010 don't include HD (August onwards will include HD) - in April and May that accounted for 0.2-0.3% (still not good enough to overtake 2011 shares) whilst in June it would've made up an extra 0.8% (so 2010 lead in June would've been even more in reality). It's probably going to be impossible to do proper y-o-y comparisons for some time to come, with BARB starting to take web-based VOD into account soon.

What will US X-Factor do on ITV2 this Autumn?
I am assuming it will go next day after the US on Thursday/Friday? Can the launch show touch 2m - with the Cheryl storyline? How will ITV cope in November with both US XFactor and I'm A Celeb? |

US Premiere Dates
All US premiere dates are now confirmed. Premiere week begins Monday 19th and the majority of shows will launch in that period.
Some notable scheduling:

The CW kick things off with 90210's return on Tuesday 13th at 8pm followed by the new Sarah Michelle Gellar vehicle, Ringer, at 9pm. Their new reality block follows on Wednesday 14th (H8er and Next Top Model). On Thursday 15th, The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle premiere. Only the Friday shows (Nikita & Supernatural) launch in premiere week. Gossip Girl & Hart of Dixie kick off on Monday 26th.
NBC will use America's Got Talent again. Parenthood premieres Tuesday 13th after the performance show. The new Wednesday comedies (Up All Night & Free Agents) are usually to air in the 8pm hour but will premiere in the 10pm hour on Wednesday 14th after the AGT results.
Fans of Chuck have to wait until Friday 21st October when it and Grimm premiere.
CBS will have 2 hour long comedy specials. How I Met Your Mother from 8-9pm on Monday 19th and The Big Bang Theory from 8-9pm on Thursday 22nd. Two Broke Girls (usually Mon 8.30pm) is getting a Two and a Half Men lead-in for its premiere. Stretching The Big Bang Theory out to an hour means that new sitcom How To Be A Gentleman doesn't launch opposite the first Thursday X Factor and gives a guaranteed lead-in to Person of Interest at 9pm. How To Be A Gentleman and Mike & Molly premiere in their usual slots on Monday 26th and Thursday 29th.
ABC are also going for 2 hour long comedy premieres. The Middle and Modern Family will fill 8-10pm, providing steady opposition to X Factor and a reliable lead-in to Revenge at 10pm.
FOX hold Terra Nova until Monday 26th with a 2 hour premiere. House fans have to wait until Monday 3rd of October for its return in the new 9pm timeslot.
X Factor is 2 hours on both Wednesday and Thursday of premiere week (21st/22nd).
It's a 2 hour Grey's Anatomy premiere, so Private Practice returns on the 29th.
ABC's Tuesday comedy hour waits until Tuesday 11th October when Last Man Standing gets an hour long premiere at 8pm with Man Up! sliding into the 8.30pm slot the following week.
PREMIERE WEEK: Monday 19th - How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men, Two Broke Girls, Hawaii Five-O, Dancing With The Stars, Castle, The Sing Off, Playboy. Only 12 new shows? How does that compare to previous years, seems quite low?

If they have XF USA (2 1/2 hours or more), The Only Way Is Essex (2 hours), Celebrity Juice (45 mins), Xtra Factor (2 hours) and some of their Andre/Katona reality stuff and 3 weeks of Get Me Out Of Here Now, ITV2 could be in for a big 4th quarter. I've criticised it in the past, but I think ITV2 should just stick to being a sister channel to ITV1 and focus on entertainment/reality programming. Potentially in the future, they could create a new digital brand (look at NBCU - its cable entertainment properties are stand-alone brands) to focus on imports and maybe some UK scripted aimed at 16-34's (which doesn't work on ITV1 and doesn't really fit on ITV2). |

ABC - Once Upon A Time, Pan Am, Man Up, Last Man Standing, Revenge, Suburgatory, Charlie's Angels = 7 (3 in premiere week) CBS - Two Broke Girls, Unforgettable, How To Be A Gentleman, A Gifted Man, Person of Interest = 5 (4 in premiere week) FOX - Allen Gregory, Terra Nova, New Girl, I Hate My Teenage Daughter, X Factor = 5 (2 in premiere week) NBC - Playboy, Up All Night, Free Agents, Whitney, Prime Suspect, Grimm = 6 (3 in premiere week) CW - Ringer, H8er, The Secret Circle, Hart of Dixie = 4 (0 in premiere week) So all in all, 27 new series this fall but only 12 in premiere week. Only CBS launch more than half their new shows that week. I think it's a combination of The CW avoiding premiere week, CBS and ABC doing those hour long comedy specials (thus holding off on new sitcoms) and ABC & NBC launching their Tue/Wed 8pm comedy blocks outside premiere week. Not to mention X Factor is FOX's focus that week, meaning Terra Nova is held to the next week and I Hate My Teenage Daughter won't start until November. Plus you've got The Sing Off - usually not on until late November/early December - taking 2 hours for NBC on Monday. And IIRC, a number of commentators at the upfronts noted a larger than usual number of high profile projects launching midseason. |

Cheers for the detailed response, as ever, C14E. It's shaping up to be another fascinating season in the U.S.

It's funny isn't it with Penn and Teller everyone thought it was great and a fairly original spin on both talent shows and magic shows when it was rating well.

And here's the demographic information for BBC1 and ITV1 from last week up to and including Monday: http://i54.tinypic.com/2nbeq1w.jpg
3.6m is an extremely high 65+ audience for New Tricks, the highest for any show I think on UK TV. One other point of note from that is that The Marriage Ref is doomed, if its demographic was okay then it might have been recommissioned for ITV, but the demographic is bad and I don't think a recommission can be justified. It looks like New Tricks managed to find a few extra million viewers that weren't around for previous weeks. Is that correct? |

The second episode against New Tricks dropped 300k in 18-49's and was beaten by NT by around the same margin. |

BBC1 are really going to miss Luther on Tuesdays at 9pm. I doubt there will be a drama playing out there with The Hour and The Night Watch on BBC2 over the next few weeks.

So about tomorrow night's EastEnders?
I can't believe that the BBC have given it no promotion!!!! Some people might not even know that Ronnie's last episode is this week. I think the hour episode could make 9million if the weather keeps up being bad and also if they promote it all day tomorrow. |
