You can get ratings from July 1998 here
http://www.barb.co.uk/report/weeklyT...ammesOverview?

Sadly I don't know where to get older ratings.

I'm not sure when digiguide updates, but when they next do, it should show us what's coming on Aug 20th, after this series of "W" ends.

When I first heard about Born To Shine I thought it was going to be a sort of Britain's Got Talent but for kids only.

But no! they had to bring celebrities in to it. And I use the word "celebvrity" in the loosest possible term. When it comes to picking celebrities this programme was way, way, way at the back of the queue. When the main attraction of your opening programme is Angelica Bell and Michael Underwoood, well - no offence - but you shouldn't be surprised when you need to borrow the Hubble telescope to see your viewing figures.

Probably BTS sounded quite good at the pitch - child prodegies, celebrities out of their comfort zone - but as Al Murray, Pub Landlord would say, they didn't think it through.

Consider the idea from another angle:

Minor celebrities being taught to sing, dance or play an instrument by a 12 year old. And that's must-see TV how exactly?

Pretty poor for L&O:UK last night for the type of programme that it is and the slot that is has. The time of year is no excuse as New Tricks can testify. If NT can get 8m in the overnight L&O should be able to get 5m especially up against a repeat of a programme that doesn't rate that brilliantly new, although, having said that, I notice that Gently manged 5m in the overnights last Autumn even up against the X factor and Downton Abbey.

Excuses that Gently had a half-hour head start and the two ptrogrammes are the same genre won't wash with me. How well do you think Silent Witness would have done last night at 9pm against a 8pm-starting repeat of Midsomer or Lewis. At least 5m and possibly 6m.

It seems to be that L&O may be well made but as a programme it's a bit "meh".

More foreign crime drama, please. I also liked the few episodes they broadcast last year of the Inspector Montalbano series

Thanks, but I'm already familiar with the Casualty and The Bill figures for 1998 and afterwards. I've seen the BARB site several times. But thanks for your help.

RIP The Royal, at least it won the first half of its slot so can go out with a certain sense of satisfaction, unlike Born To Shine, which stiffed completely in its slot and will probably finish unnoticed.
George Gently should have done better, considering Warren Clarke and Sarah Lancashire were guest stars and the story was very strong.

I assume people know about this but according to a TVGuide journalist in the US:

Quote:
“Masterpiece co-producing prequel pilot "Endeavour" (Morse's 1st name), Morse in Oxford in ’60s. Actor TBAnnounced Wed.”

Except it wasn't easy to opt into as there was no natural break to do so.

New Tricks totally unaffected by the weather (it was 8.2 last week), nothing seems to effect it. And heh to Meerkat manor beating OKTV.
