The Apprentice averaged 8.3m and peaked at 9m. This series has been huge. Could the show have its most watched final ever this year?

Superb stuff for The Apprentice, brilliant rating. Newsnight did very well as well, highest rating all year. Not so good for the relative News at Ten's though, however it seems You're Fired dented it on BBC2.

I also think In With the Flynns should be doing better considering a lead-in of ~5m and a lead-out of ~8m. Hopefully Luther's second series success, plus the fact that comedies tend to get a second chance mean that it is recommissioned.

The poor weather seemed to lift most shows with Lewis repeats getting 4m and the same effect must be giving BBC1 and the rest a boost.

5 News At 7 cant be long for this world with that figure - extending OKTV would probably make sense, although I suppose this is often used for cricket highlights now.

Still no news on how the Tour De France is rating?

Solid ending to what has been a fantastic series of Waterloo Road. Consistently over 5m every week and always ~6m in the officials.

Lewis did well to make 4m and it will be the highest rated weekday 9pm show this week for ITV1.

Ch4 seem to have struck lucky this week. The returning shows have performed well, Dispatches has been given a boost and other shows like Four Rooms & Kitchen Nightmares have been given a boost from a stronger schedule.

Decent for Ch5 to make 1m, especially now NCIS is in repeat mode and up against pretty tough competition,

Oh yeah, I thought The Choir That Rocks was still on. I reckon Kate In Canada should do around 3.5-4.5m.

It's on at 10:35pm, so probably ~3.5m at most.

Oh wow, I didn't realise that at all! Could be the third 7m+ audience for BBC1 this week then... although I haven't seen it promoted much, but still think it will do very well with poor opposition.

This must be the first time in a long time we've had a programme about a royal tour on television, let alone in primetime. Back in the eighties you'd regularly get The Prince And Princess Of Wales In New Zealand-type shows on Sunday teatimes on both the Beeb and ITV, but people stopped caring. So this is a pleasingly old school show for ITV.

Not as far as I know which is a shame because it's a great show. Channel 5 should go for it, especially now it has been renewed - although that may bump the cost of the rights up.

I've watched "Necessary Roughness" a couple of times, and despite it featuring American Football, and having Buffy-ruiner Marc Blucas in, it's really good. Think it would be ideal for Channel5.

The Apprentice is on fire this series.

Poms in Paradise has done okay in its slot; I thought it was quite a well-made documentary series.

So about tomorrow night's EastEnders?

I can't believe that the BBC have given it no promotion!!!!

Some people might not even know that Ronnie's last episode is this week.

I think the hour episode could make 9million if the weather keeps up being bad and also if they promote it all day tomorrow.
Under 9million and just above 8 million but the BBC 3 repeat should do well.
The BBC haven't done any promotion what so ever and i can't understand why.
Tonight's is such a big episode and Ronnie's fate hasn't been leaked.
I think if they were to promote tonights episode then it could peak at well over 9million.
a shame really

Elsewhere, Tour De France 2011 Highlights rode away with 502k (2.5%) on ITV4 in the 7pm hour.

So with another series of Waterloo Road over:

Waterloo Road - Overnight Series Averages
Series 1 - 4.8m (21%) – 8 episodes – March 2006 to April 2006*
Series 2 - 4.8m (22%) - 12 episodes - January 2007 to April 2007*
Series 3 - 5.0m (22%) - 20 episodes - October 2007 to March 2008*
Series 4 - 4.2m (18%) - 20 episodes - January 2009 to May 2009
Series 5 - 4.3m (19%) - 20 episodes - October 2009 to July 2010
Series 6 - 4.5m (19%) - 20 episodes - September 2010 to April 2011
Series 7 - 4.9m (24%) - 10 episodes** - May 2011 to July 2011

Sources: Digital Spy and Media Guardian. Includes BBC HD where noted on DS articles.

* cannot find overnight rating for 13th April, 2006, 15th February, 2007 or 10th January, 2008
** remaining 20 episodes to air late 2011/early 2012

Just a note, the Series 7 ratings above are all 19:30 to 20:25 as Waterloo Road finishes at 20:26 due to the News update so in reality the ratings are higher than the full slot ratings. Excluding the 'BGT clash', Series 7 so far has averaged 5.1m (25%). All to 1.d.p., because the first few series' only have ratings to 1.d.p.

And....

Waterloo Road - Official Series Averages
Series 1 - 4.55m
Series 2 - 4.80m (exc. 25th January and 1st February)
Series 3 - 5.00m
Series 4 - 4.76m (exc. 21st and 28th January; 4th and 18th February)
Series 5 - 4.99m (exc. 16th and 23rd December; 9th June)
Series 6 - 5.13m
Series 7 - 5.79m (exc. last 2 episodes)

Officials exclude HD.

The problem with some of the figures is that Scotland opted out sometimes and showed it on a different night which makes things harder to compare.

I wonder if the Series 7 increase in the officials is due to timeshifting or due to it becoming more popular? The overnights suggest that it is becoming more popular and back to the level of the first few series'.

BBC1 9pm ratings for the last 7 days are somewhat impressive for the 1st week in a warm July.

21:00 - Taken: The Milly Dowler Story: 2.85m
21:00 - My Family: 4.31m 21:30- Miranda: 3.63m
21:00 - Casualty: 4.94m
21:00 - Stolen: 3.4m
21:00 - New Tricks: 8.3m
21:00 - Luther: 5.74m
21:00 - The Apprentice: 8.3m
Current slot average for week is 5.31m, which ought rise tonight with 21:00 - The Apprentice: The Final Five

Ought be good for 6 million, only up against Kate in Canada & The Killing.

Dont under estimate Kate in Canada especially with a CS lead in.

The Phone hacking scandal seem to have boosted NewsNight and the BBC News Channel. Newspapers seem to getting the same treatment that they gave the BBC and other TV channels during the Fakery and Sachsgate which is only fair as they've gotten away with things a lot worse.

Think we're going to see a very good figure for Question Time tonight, definitely above its usual ~2.5m.

Newsnight has been essential viewing these past couple of nights, good to see it reflected in the figures.

Quite unfortunate that for their highest rated edition in ages last night they played out an unedited version of their lead report, which showed the reporter stopping to do another take! D'oh.

Bet The Six on BBC One will do well as millions will be tuning in to see it confirmed that the News of the World has been closed down. I caught it at 5.00 on BBC News 24.
Auntie won't be too unhappy as the News of the World hated it for either being too middle class for its readership or a threat to the Murdoch empire.
