I'm also guessing it's starting early because of the Olympics AND possibly Euro 2012 and the amount of disruption both events might cause to the schedule. 41 episodes would get it out of the way in mid-June with a couple of 1-week breaks here and there. I also imagine they'll do a longer run in 2012-13, starting after the Olympics - to 'compensate' for the shortfall.

Looking at C5's ratings if only 1m watch the most popular shows how will anybody even know Big Brother is on if they don't watch that big BB trailer which is on every ad break from what i've seen? hardly anyone takes anything seriously what appear in that fantasy paper the Daily Star.

3m once again for 24 Hours in A&E, a very consistent performer.

I know we have discuss reduced orders for some shows due to the Olympics before, but I am sure a show with 40+ episodes a year, can loose one or two, so this might be what has happened here.

It depends on the reach across the day. I don't imagine it's the same 1m watching every show. I wonder, though, how much publicity the Sun and Daily Mirror will want to give a programme on a channel run by the owner of rival newspapers.

The first episode of C4's last series of CBB had 6.3m, although that was a Sunday night in January rather than a Thursday night in August. Of course, even an audience half the size of C4's audience would be a big big figure for C5.

As for last night i'm not surprised that hardly anything was above 4m. What sort of idiot was watching TV last night? Any sensible person would have been sitting in their fridge.

It was shown in full just before CSI: Miami on Tuesday, watched by 2m viewers. There are also other programmes in the schedule attracting close to 2m average - including Cowboy Builders and Neighbours (across the two showings) - where the ad has been shown.

As Iain says there is a cumulative effect from showing it right across the day, the total reach soon builds up. According to BARB Channel 5 reaches almost 10 million people across the day.

But the billboards and/or advertising on other channels (?) will extend this a lot further.

Not true at all. 1m people are watching a repeat of a drama, up against repeats of two other dramas. 2m people watch Neighbours every day, 2m people watch CSI:Miami every week. I can't see those audiences sharing many viewers tbh. Then you have Cowboy Builders bringing in 2m every week. You've picked one of the lowest rating primetime programmes of the week.

Back to last night, at least Ch5 was above 1m from 8-10pm. Lewis gave ITV a boost, but Emmerdale struggling under 6m again and the share is lower than usual.

Channel 4 has acquired new CBS sitcom '2 Broke Girls': http://www.channel4.com/info/press/n...om-warner-bros

It's supposed to be one of the best new shows this forthcoming season, so looks like a good buy from C4.

I wish a UK network would hurry up and buy the amazing 'Parks and Recreation', it really deserves a UK showing, imo.

Yeah, just seen that. I guess it finished early last night. Still slightly low considering this week is building up to the exit of a very popular character, although many viewers are probably fed up of how dragged out storylines are getting.

There's been a small change to the Celebrity Big Brother scheduling today.

The first episode of Bit on the Side is now half an hour long from 10:30pm-11pm. Probably sensible for the first night as I guess there won't be too much to talk about apart from who's gone in.

Quote:
“REALITY SHOW: Celebrity Big Brother's Bit on the Side
On: Channel 5 (5)
Date: Thursday 18th August 2011 (starting in 14 days)
Time: 22:30 to 23:00 (30 minutes long)

Surely Bit On the Side should always be half an hour long, not a criticism but I remember whenever BBLB was hour long (sundays) it used to drag on like anything, with the new show if it was hour long they would be talking for an hour about something thats just been on for an hour.

And this is why we don't have Sherlock in the Autumn from a BBC Drama publicist on Twitter.

I think Casualty will miss 1 week for Eurovision, 1 or 2 weeks during the Euro 2012 football tournament and 3 weeks during the Olympics.

Using rudimentary maths from ratings data - total viewers for primetime hours

7pm hour - 17.6m
8pm hour - 19.7m
9pm hour - 21.7m

I only watched Great British Weather & Rick Stein's Spain, which I didn't realise was second showing - final episode tonight. I just noticed only 2 repeats shows tonight from 7pm-10pm on the 5 main channels - 'Madagascar & How Do The Do It?' - 90mins in total (10%). It is pretty good for 15 hours of prime time tv in August.

2 Broke Girls is a good pick up, is it for E4 or Channel 4 because it looks like E4 may be expanding its comedy block.

Channel 5 have been quiet on the US acquisations although that may be due to negiotations. Whitney would be a good pick up if they want to reintroduce comedy onto Channel 5 and drama wise, Person of Interest and Unforgettable.

Demographic Information for programmes between Sunday 31st July and Tuesday 3rd August: http://i56.tinypic.com/v3q3jo.jpg

The table includes all five terrestrial channels with their 9pm programmes plus selected others. Some interesting stats there. With almost half the week gone, the top 10 of the week so far would be (excluding soaps):

A18-49
1 - 11.9 - Top Gear
2 - 8.8 - Dragons' Den
3 - 8.1 - DIY SOS
4 - 6.5 - New Tricks
5 - 4.2 - Cops with Cameras
6 - 3.7 - Show Me The Funny
7 - 3.7 - Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares USA
8 - 3.6 - Undercover Boss
9 - 3.5 - Countryfile
10 - 3.5m - Embarrassing Fat Bodies

ABC1 Adults
1 - 17.1 - New Tricks
2 - 11.2 - Top Gear
3 - 11.1 - Dragons' Den
4 - 10.2 - DIY SOS
5 - 9.9 - Countryfile
6 - 7.5 - Inspector George Gently
7 - 7.1 - Law & Order UK
8 - 6.8 - Antiques Roadshow
9 - 5.9 - The Royal
10 - 4.9 - The Hour

Note: Numbers relate to the % of the population within that criteria that watched that show. For e.g. 11.9% of all adults aged 18-49 in the UK watched Top Gear, 17.1% of all ABC1 adults in UK watched New Tricks.

I'm surprised CSI: Miami skews more female than male considering it's a crime drama but when you look at the other crime dramas, they do seem to skew more female

Yeah, typically crime dramas have a higher % of females watching, usually around the 60/40 mark. Some shows like Sherlock will be closer to 50/50 but on the whole, more females tend to watch traditional procedural crime dramas.
