Well, no, it doesn't have to start on that night, but given the fact that the show is going to be over 60 minutes in duration per episode that pretty much instantly rules out Monday to Friday due to the 10pm news (I know they've been a bit flexible with the news on Fridays but they're hardly going to air it on that night, are they?) so it's obviously going to air on Sundays, it would've been on Sundays anyway even if it was 1 hour as it was so successful there last year and it's perfect for that night. And then regarding the actual date of the 18th, it's very likely that the eight episodes will air directly before I'm a Celebrity returns and after Red or Black airs, so that means the air date will be either 11th or 18th September. The likelihood is it'll be 18th September so it has TXF lead-in from the final TXF auditions shows. Also it would coincide with the fact that STV would've shown all 7 episodes of the 1st series by then, which wouldn't be the case the previous week. So I think people saying it's going to be that date have good reason to believe so. Obviously it doesn't have to be that date, no one is saying it must air there, but it's the most likely date and pretty much has been almost confirmed from some websites that is the intended launch date.

Quote:
“... and the other day it was suggested there were only three days - New Year's Eve, New Year's Day or January 2nd - out of 366 that the Morse spin-off could appear on!”

Again, people didn't say it's the only three days, but it is pretty realistic given what we've heard about the show it is likely to air on NYD or Jan 2nd. The reasons are: it's been reported the show will air "early next year" to "coincide with the 25th anniversary of Morse starting" (6th January). So it's likely to air in January - it doesn't have to be January I know but it's probably the most likely month. Now in terms of Sundays, which is the evening that the majority of 2-hour dramas air on ITV1, only January 1st would be available until April due to Dancing on Ice returning on January 8th (it's launched that same weekend for the last 4 years and very likely to do so again). Of course it might not air on Sundays, which leaves us with Mondays (2nd January as a likely option, until the Bank Holiday in April/May) or possibly a Wednesday - I personally don't think it'd air on a Wednesday as ITV hasn't debuted a new 2-hour drama on that night in years but I suppose it's a possibility. But given the various factors, you can see why people pinpointed 1st/2nd January as possible dates for it. It doesn't have to be shown on those nights, of course, there's 364 other days in the year but those 2 dates for its TX are good guesses, even this early on. There might be some scheduling changes closer to the time dependent on the competition, but I suspect ITV even this early on would be hoping to air it on one of those two nights.

Weird that they chosen to BB on at 9pm on Thursday especially as Cowboy Builders has been doing so well in that slot. I imagine the 9pm Monday BB will move to 10pm when they have series ready for the Autumn like Paul Merton or JLC in Vegas.

I'm guessing Grey's is at 10pm on Thursdays, not sure why Channel 5 continue with the show as it was never a ratings hit.

Impressive for Trollied on Sky 1, I was expecting about 800k for the first episode and 700k for the second.
I suppose it will eventually settle down to those figures which would still be very good.

While not as funny as other comedies it was more than watchable and well done to Sky, theyve made some great programmes over the years. (And I include Mile High in that! :P)

I was thinking of programmes like Rev, Twenty Twelve, Psychoville and Getting On.

Quality shows, full of 'star names', but not great performers, considering potential reach.

Hopefully the CBB lead-in will boost Grey's, effectively ending up in a CBB sandwich with Bit on the Side at 11pm. I certainly don't know why it rated so badly last season. Everyone I know who watches it speaks very highly of it.

Are you really trying to draw a comparison between Getting on/Grandmas House/Pychoville and broad spoonfed 'my family' esque Trollied

I'm not a fan personally, come to think of it, Thursdays wont be likely for Grey's due to the football which will push back BB to 10pm, maybe Saturdays?

Unless they're just going to dump it on Wednesdays at 11pm. There is no Bit on the Side on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Thanks. I suspect the timings for the Saturday HL shows will vary week by week depending on the competition such as TXF. If, for example, TXF launch runs 8-9.30pm, they'll probably shift CBB to 9.30pm. Do you know how the Friday episodes will work: is the 9pm episode going to be 30 mins, 1 hour or one-long 1.5hr show? I wonder what will get the Monday 10pm slot, Soho Blues possibly or is that more of a 8/9pm show?

Just seen that Bit on the Side is airing exclusively on 5* on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. This is clever because on those nights the CBB highlights show is at 10pm, so they can direct viewers to switch to 5*. The other nights there is a gap between the highlights show and BotS.

The provisional scheduling for Friday is the same as week 1. I think Extraordinary People will get the Monday night slot with Soho Blues on the Thursday, but it could just as easily be the other way around.

Very likely as you said that the Saturday start times will vary depending on the BBC One/ITV1 schedules.

Soho Blues is an 8'O Clock Heroes show with added swearing and drunkiness, it would need have to be toned down for 8pm so it's more likely for 10pm. Normal BB at 9pm was never as successful on Channel 4 compared to 10pm so I imagine it'll be back at 10pm when the normal series start as they need 9pm for some of the factual shows.

No eviction on the Friday? Given that CBB only airing for two and a half weeks , I would have thought they would have BB from 9 to 9.30pm Bachelor from 9.30 to 1030, interview at 1030 and BOTS at 11pm. I suspect that'll be the schedule for eviction night.

I haven't seen it yet so can't comment, but from what I've seen it's a single camera no audience programme, more in the mould of the ones I've mentioned and not a typical 'sitcom' a la My Family. As Lucy Lumsden's previous commissions include Getting On and Lead Balloon (another quality underperforming show), I'm expecting something more like those than an awful 'canned laughter' family sitcom.

Good point. Tweaks to that day in the final schedules seem likely.

I've just noticed though that the 5* repeat of Sunday's show on the Monday is 90 minutes long. Could that indicate the first eviction will be on a Sunday?

Click (2006) which is bound to go in a Sunday evening slot and Stuck on You (2003).

The only movies Mon-Fri are the made for TV ones they air at 3pm.

Hoping those times for Big Brother change - it needs to be on at a consistent 10pm slot if it is to establish an audience in my view. And then do what Channel 4 used to do for the evictions - 9pm to 10pm and 10:30pm to 11pm.

Wonder if this means that BB not getting a Sunday HL show unless Click is getting an 8pm slot.

Why? I can't remember it ever being on at a consistent time on Channel 4.

Also if they air it at 10pm each night then they cannot use it to boost other shows.

As long as they steer clear of 8pm, I think we're okay. When Big Brother starts they'll need a re-think though because 10pm every night except eviction nights would be more suitable for that show.

I think the 9pm shows aside from Saturdays and Fridays is just for the intial week or two. I can't see Big Brother at 8pm unless they want to boost a big show.

On the whole that's a great schedule. I reckon EP and CBB could be switched around on the Monday though. Also The Beat Goes On could flop spectacuarly in the Wed 9pm slot.

Best to start off on the right note and treat your audience good by putting it in a consistent slot night after night.

It's possible. But I think if that were the case Bit on the Side would be on 5* that night, as they seem to want to air the episodes of that show that air straight after the main show to air on the digital channel. Still time for changes, but Extraordinary People has aired at 10pm before, and would benefit from that lead-in. Not that it particularly needs it. That could be 2 shows back-to-back with 2m viewers on Monday nights and Tuesday nights. I do share your fears for The Beat Goes On, which looks way out of its depth in that timeslot.
