Dancc suggests NTM is fading in the ratings in spite of an advertising campaign that has a very attractive model in riding clothes. I would think possibly ITV2 could be interested in the format, but if it's showing a decline, then it might be best left alone. However, as a global format, it has had a successfull run.

She didn't get the job because she'd presented the tour, she got it because she'd been on the series and is a popular, well-known presenter. Most viewers have never seen the tour. According to the papers she was up against Denise Van Outen.

As for Next Top Model, Five showed Make Me A Supermodel a few years back, which is more or less the same thing, surely.

Hello, Charnham, I did laugh when they gave the award to the wrong person in Australia. I do think for young women the show is ideal as it does show them that being a model isn't all its cracked up to be.
I'm still banking on one thing, a successful BB will be the making of Channel 5. Even ratings similar to BB11 will be a massive success for them.

Compare todays figures to ten years ago and see how many viewers Corrie , Easties etc have lost in 10 years

I really dont know about that, even if BB was a hit, Channel 5 has never launched a succesful reality show I dont think tht will change simply becaue Big Brother is on the channel.

Meanwhile people actually quite like alot of what C5 does, some of those people who would not consider themelves reality TV viewers. For C5 to jump on the reality TV show bandwagon, even with formerly succesful shows axed by other channels, is going to look bad and unorginal.

Stunning figure for The Apprentice moves it to just outside the Top 10, ahead of Doctor Who, Come Fly with Me and Big Fat Gypsy Weddings.

Checking figures from 10 years ago, and it looks like the big two have lost 5-6 million viewers each. Of course, go back 20 years, and both soaps have lost about 9 million each. However, it does seem that the ratings have steadied at 8-9 million for Coronation St and Eastenders as they will have their long standing fans. Emmerdale hasn't suffered such a heavy drop, but OTOH it was always the weakest of the British soaps in the nineties.
I do blame the overkill with episodes which has weakened the storylines and some very poor actors replacing the stalwarts. I know they are dead now, but are there actors in Coronation St with the gravitas of Stan Odgen or Annie Walker.

5/6m is a big exaggeration. 2/3m yes, but not 5/6m as you suggest.

The Royal was axed yet still gets over 4m viewers on a sunday.

Personally i think ITV made a bad choice there in axing the Royal, never realyl watched Heartbeat but love the Royal

Marley and Me is the latest film on Channel 4 to break 3m in total viewers, I do think they should be saving some films for the Autumn. Both Channel 5 films did okay breaking 1m.

The World's Most Expensive Paintings ratings prove that art is a hard sell for BBC One audiences although given how Fake or Fortune has done, maybe it's the presenter Alastair Sooke who they seem to be trying to make him the art equivalent to Brian Cox.

Not a bad little show but the ageists wanted rid. Now you know I go on about demos a lot as I know this is what excites advertisers, so I'm going to do a demographic on myself. Male, 43, C2( second bottom grade civil servant), car owner, mortgage, degree holder, reads Mirror Group and Express Newspapers products, politically cynical( socialist many moons ago). Televisual likes: football( can't afford bloody Sky though), classic sitcoms, police dramas, extreme sports, classic war and action films, Come Dine With Me, Britain's Got Talent, factual shows like Top Gear, Doctor Who, Strictly oddly enough. Televisual dislikes: Soaps, morning programmes, breakfast television, most reality shows, TXF, Saturday nights on BBC One, summer sports except racing and golf.

They did quite a lot of advertsing for it - particularly during Friends on E4. Seems to have paid off with a very good figure there.

PSTOS finished on numbers that weren't awful. But my suspicion is that it was only ever given a second chance because it was from ITV Studios. I don't think it'll be back, but I could be wrong.

Law and Order did well but again its just mopping up a lot of casual viewers. Its never going to get 6m against half-decent competition. Expect a huge fall next wekk.

What did Restoration Home get last week on BBC2? I saw Caroline Quientin on BBC Breakfast last week and she mentioned that she had already started fillming/production for the next series - seems a bit odd considering the first episode hadn't even aired yet

How much did Dirty Sexy Things get in its premiere/last night?

Hmmm, it's not a bad show, but ITV are stuck in a catch 22: if they show expensive drama in this slot, then this flops and they lose millions, PTOS continues but still low ratings mean the advertisers aren't that interested. However, it's been quite a brave concept for ITV1 and a 45 pc ABC1 share suggest it could be kept going as these are good demos for ITV plc. Yet if it fails to deliver for a third time, then it will definitely be curtains.
Yet one show that is getting its third chance is Shipwrecked, which has been off and on our screens since 2000 and was finished two years ago due to falling ratings. This, I think, could be a big gamble for Channel 4 as it is expensive to make and is a very niche programme aimed at the under 25s.

Good return for L&O - though if my memory serves me correctly it can be quite an inconsistent programme so I'd expect to see it down into the 4m's with a bit of stronger competition. Poor night for BBC One, but that 9pm offering would have had "low ratings PSB" written all over it from the moment it was commissioned, so they'll hardly be fussed. BBC Two had another strong Sunday with a recovery for Top Gear and Channel 4 made hay with their movie too.

BB could make a lot of money for Channel 5 which would allow them to invest in other genres. Assuming CBB pulls in 2.5 million viewers and BB12 pulls in 2 million, this is still good for Channel 5 for five months. Also I think they will give the show a makeover. However, I hope they don't go down the route of becoming Sky Living or MTV Mark 2 and waste money on banal tripe involving Katie Price and sex mad Geordies.

That ludicrous yarn about the Corrie ratings catastrophe now appears in today's Sun.

Are these papers all thick or on a vendetta? Or is someone at the show trying to bring changes as again it cites an unnamed source.

Again it uses the absurd comparison of two extreme episodes and claims the drop is believed by insiders on the show to be because of Michelle Collins and the audience not taking to her.

Apparently Phil Collinson is about the only thing the show staff talk about all day and he is said to be heading for the exit as well after bringing this (non existent) massive fall in viewers.

But what casual reader will believe anything other than that there is a crisis at Corrie after these seriously misleading press stories over the past few days?

This is a fascinating example of how ratings can be used or abused to try to make a point or bring about changes.
