Yep, just checked the runtimes on e1:

US: 51m13s (including closing credits and "next week" promo)
UK: 50m (approx, the "full season" promo came before the closing credits, so can't be 100% certain on the equivalent runtime)

So, looks like at least 7-8 mins of "promo" time to fill for e2!

They should take the opportunity to promote stuff on other channels, before the prog starts (as that segment seemed to get the most viewers!)

I've got a sky + HD box and just watched last nights Neighbours which recorded fine. Maybe it just affected certain parts of the country.

The idea sounds quite interesting and I'm not sure its been done before. The title though is a gift to tabloid sub-ed's if the ratings are low.

A better title would have been "Where There's a Will, There's a Relative"

Its good to see Robbie's sister getting a primetime show though

In another news...

- Through the Keyhole is set to be revived... presented by Vernon Kay.
- Marcus Bentley has left Channel 4, meaning he'll almost certainly be moving over to Channel 5 to voice Big Brother.

Ouch, that's a bad night for BBC One, what happened there? Even The Apprentice special at 22:35 did unspectacular. Very good for Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire, did not expect it to be near to 5m at all.

That must be its worst "normal" rating. They badly need Adrian & Christine back. Cue TOS in crisis headlines..

No bounce for Castle either on Five.

Well its actually in 'Best of' mode. I say that, would the best bits be the studio bits and not the external pieces which they've been showing the past week?

BTW, Millionaire will be tape-checked, but I suspect like Torchwood the day before it'd make little difference as the first 5 and last 5 minutes are removed.

Figures all look low this week in many surprising shows. I do know lots of people on holiday right now so maybe it is just that.

Perhaps Torchwood will turn out not to be so bad a rating after all - though the problems it has in comparison with the tight, snappy, well constructed (and British set!) Children of Earth will persist for 9 more weeks unless there is a spectacular and unforeseen change in style and direction which was not obvious from the interminable 'trailer' at the end.

In today's Sun John Barrowman reports that on set he heard various comments when told Torchwood was set in Wales - such as 'Where is Wales?'

Geography not a strong suit in the States, it seems. So maybe the makers did not check Google Earth and assumed it was somewhere near LA.

Awful night for BBC1. The soap fillers should really be above 3m and even though My Family has been axed it should be getting at least 4m for new showings I think. The Kennedys has dropped quite a bit too.

Decent for WWTBAM and it works well airing live specials at various occasions in the year, even if the format has been changed. I reckon the XF specials should do around 6m with the lead in and on a Saturday night.

Strong share for Quiz Night which seems to have capitalised on no Norton on BBC1. Clever scheduling. Although the rest of the schedule is a bit 'meh'.

I thought Castle would start to increase again, but it keeps going down. I reckon a 10pm slot is calling for the next series, but at least it's still above 1m.

Slow night for BBC1 - I wonder why My Family has taken a dip these last two weeks as it was doing pretty decently the first few episodes with 4.0-4.5m. The Kennedys lost a lot of its audience week-on-week, the poor lead-in wouldn't have helped. Good rating for WWTBAM: the revamped live specials have done very respectably so far. I can see them continuing with the live specials every few months, but ITV could do worse than having a 6-part series of it in the Friday 9pm slot next year, which I'm sure would rate better than the likes of Comedy Rocks and Paul O'Grady Live. No standout numbers for C4 but I like the fact that they're trying a few back to back light entertainment shows on Fridays now. Castle seemed to be hurt by the tougher ITV1 competition, but it should be able to bounce back next week I'd have thought.

so its going to hover at 1m for the rest of the series then?

I thought these US procedurals were supposed to be getting close to 2m in that slot for new episodes?

Hardly surprising that both Castle and The Kennedys are at the 1m level(only 12K between them), as they've both already been shown in the UK.

So far:

Millionaire Live
23/12/10 - 6.51m (26.6%) <-- vs New Tricks repeat
02/04/11 - 5.06m (21.7%) <-- vs Casualty
15/07/11 - 4.73m (22.5%) <-- vs My Family and Miranda

Including +1 for the audience for the 2011 ones

Okay, no massively hard competition, however considering it was on a deathbed a few years ago, those are very solid numbers. There's a good chance The X Factor special edition could do very good numbers.

Any figures for BBC1 News at 6 / 10?

Did the strike have any impact?

Also I think one of the reasons it rated so low last night was because it didn't have a Regional News lead-in, which it seems to be heavily reliant on.

I think the Tuesday 8pm slot was really holding it back from what it's capable of. For some reason, ITV programmes airing in that Tuesday 8-10pm slot rate about 20% or even 30% lower than what they're capable of in pretty much any other timeslot, especially with a Corrie lead-in. Given that it was still consistently their most popular Tuesday 8pm programme, even despite ratings declined to 3.0-3.5m, I think the signs were always there that it could perform pretty well at 9pm. The live element and some format changes seems to have made it more accessible for casual viewers, although I know for sure on DS many hardcore fans haven't been impressed by the changes one bit!

Millionaire ran to 10.15pm so that will impact the BBC 10 anyway. Since we dont have any tweets from Mr Bakhurst we can only presume he actually has real work to do today

Looking at the shares we have so far plus the primetime share, I estimate a figure of 3.5m (18.2%) for BBC News at Ten.

Going back to the Torchwood timings issues and the BBC had similar problems when they moved the Nine o'clock News to 10pm at last minute back in 2000 as all 9.30pm dramas ran at 50 minutes, so a few things began at 9.10pm, with The Weakest Link IIRC airing in 40 minute editions at 8.30pm. Alot of the David Attenborough stuff has 10 minutes added on at the end too I believe. I'm surprised they haven't gone for some kind of Torchwood Confidential 5-minute add ons at the end, or is there a Doctor Who web-series that might fit in the slot as filler?
