There was a BBC1 show in 1994. It was called Good Fortune. David Frost presented the Sunday night pilot in the summer, and it returned for a full Friday night series in the autumn, presented by Gloria Hunniford () and Andi Peters ( ), but it soon became quite boring: "Here's the Post Office book with £5 your sister lost in 1956, and now it's worth £16." etc.

Not sure why people are saying "ouch" and "awful" for BBC1 last night. The channel got a share of 18.3% last night compared to an 18.4% share last Friday night. The only show that was down a fair chunk was The One Show due to the fact that it was a repeat this week. My Family, Miranda, QOS and The Good Cook were all marginally up.

Probably because ITV beat them in the 9pm hour, which was a surprise to me a bit.

So you're comparing a first run show (The Mentalist) to a second run show (Castle), as highlighted by newkid30? Hardly fair.

Personally I think Castle would be rating around 10-20% higher than it is at the moment if it wasn't for the intense competition it suffered from the tennis in week 2. But it may still improve, there's 5 episodes left in the run and it doesn't look like it'll be facing scripted drama on any of the other terrestrials any time soon.

EDIT: A Celebrity Big Brother lead-in / lead-out for the final episode of this season on August 19th could provide a serious boost.

After Wimbledon it was expected to "bounce back" but it hasnt. The 5.1% share was exactly the same as on june 24th.

Clearly the viewers it lost in week 2 haven't returned. Just unfortunate really that its second episode fell that way. But I'm still hopeful for Castle, it's a great little show and word of mouth will help it along. Even at it's current level it is rating fine taking everything into account.

BBC1 just held up really. It wasn't a great night for them, and they'll be disappointed Millionnaire managed to beat My Family (though they have axed My Family so maybe they won't be too upset). I wonder by how many viewers Miranda will increase by once the new series is aired - around 1m I reckon. EastEnders' share seems slightly on the low side.

BBC2 had a low night, but then the BBC Proms appealed to a niche market. The lead in couldn't have helped The Kennedy's either.

ITV1 will be quite pleased with their night. Emmerdale and 7.30pm's Coronation Street had a decent share, Millionnaire won the 9pm slot and Love Your Garden benefited from the lack of Gardener's World on BBC2. The only possible downside is the 8.30pm's Coronation Street didn't have a great share.

This time last year Channel 4 pulled in 2.3m and 2.5m respectively for BIg Brother. This year not one show hit 2m. I'm not sure what the financial difference is between the shows but they don't appear to have found a new image for the channel they were going to look for after axing Big Brother. Still, the comedy did ok last night. They need to give Come Dine With Me a break now - it's dying of over exposure.

Not a brilliant night for Channel 5, but not a bad one either. Considering the lack of drama opposition maybe Castle should have been slightly higher than it was. Law and Order did ok in the 10pm hour. I don't think I ever expected that Dangers: Diggers at Work recorded a reasonable figure considering it was up against the soaps and an albeit struggling Coem Dine With Me.

Don't see why folk are surprised at LWWTBAMSOFSCS winning its slot, given how well in relative terms the previous LWWTBAMCSs have done. My Family is damaged goods having been publicly axed. I suspect many assume, particularly as it's high summer, that these are repeats anyway.Miranda will only really do as well as the lead in it gets.

I would assume LWWTBAMSOFSCS was massively trailed by ITV too last night?

The two previous Live Millionaires have done well and most people on the RPG thought Millionaire would beat both BBC1 comedies. Even yourself predicted Millionaire as being higher which contradicts your post above.

Those Best Of One Shows don't seem to be doing particularly well, although with the Regional News off air last night that will inevitably have dented it. I'm not sure why they went down the route of best-of shows. Why not just get someone from their usual roster of stand-in presenters if Matt Baker and Alex wanted a holiday? And if your not going to do that then it would be worth putting out a different program instead of One Show repeats.

My Family did poorly IMO. Even though it has been axed it should still be capable of 4 million even on a Friday dead zone. Miranda is still looking promising though and I think it could become a 4.5m + banker for new episodes, more if not shown on Friday nights. Over on ITV1 they had a very good 9pm rating by Friday night standards, it is rare to see that slot over 4 million.

Channel 5 had a decent enough night - 8pm just 6k shy of 1 million is alright. Castle seems to be doing alright as well; I don't think they ever expected ratings in the league of NCIS or CSI for it, and it's better to have a safe 1 million banker than having to air more repeats of the other US shows.



Doctors probably down due to the school summer holiday effect starting to kick in now. Eastenders getting close to the 6 millions zone is low even by Friday night summer standards (last year it averaged 7.76m (36.8%) July-August on Friday overnights). Coronation St was slightly above last year's July-August Friday overnight average though.

Season 17 of Law and Order finished on July 8th. Last night a rerun of The Mentalist aired at 10pm.

Doctors is lacking from a long-running storyline but there's some cracking stuff coming up.

EastEnders...Isn't rating that badly and hasn't it been around 7million alot lately?

Last Summer was a big one for EastEnders and loads of big storylines took place and thats why it had it's best summer since 2004.

My family I've enjoyed this series so far and feel the BBC should have kept it at 8:30pm on Fridays and actually promoted it after the 1st week

When I was typing in 'Britain's Got the Pop Factor' in wikipedia to get the correct title I mistyped and put 'Britain's Got The Op Factor' isntead...I'm amazed a channel has commissioned that as a public vote on which patient deserves immediate treatment more.

Yeh that's fair enough. I've just checked summer 2009 and Eastenders averaged 7.31m (37.0%) on Friday overnights July-August, which is lower than 2010's 7.76m (36.8%) on July-August Friday overnights. That does make last night's episode not look so bad but it was still low and the share last night was also poor.

Nothing impressive really, CS winning the night, EE rather flat, Emmerdale a little low against a substandard TOS. Looks like it is time for BBC1 to move away from the middle class comedy hour from 9.00-10.00, they could have put a decent film on from 8.30-10.00, which would have been good for 4 million.

Painfully low shares for BBC2, C4 help up quite well, C5 retaining its core audience but not great. WWTBAM deserved to drop - it was so poor and full of filler, to guarantee they ran out of time of course. The Apprentice HTGH was on too late, could have been on at 9pm and rated better, swapped with My Family & Miranda.

34% is hardly a bad rating, and its not a bad rating compared to Corrie on the same day.

It's exactly the same rating as Coronation Street's 8.30 episode.

Neither are good to be honest - both should be in the high 30s IMO.
