As for the C4 purchases, ill be keeping an eye on how the shows go in the US, but I could see myself watching Allen Gregory, I enjoyed the trailor for it that I saw. The show im must looking forward to is NBCs "Awake", and if im feeling a need for girls in air hostess uniforms, Pan Am may well tempt me.”

Pan Am seems the best replacement out there for Desperate Housewives, which it's time C4 relegated to E4 or More4. The quality also shines through in the promo compared to some other stuff out there.

Awake seems interesting but can it sustain a series. It would make a decent film plot and perhaps work as a mini-series, but as a returnable series I'm not so sure.

So many people on this thread got annoyed at the paper that criticised Corrie's ratings. Why get so bothered? Its not like everyone will suddenly stop watching. If anything the added publicity may have boosted Corrie with viewers tunung in to see if the quality was as bad as the paper was making out.”

It doesn't really bother me what the papers write as I am aware of the truth (when it comes to ratings, that is). What I said was just an observation of how I'm sure BB's ratings will be spun badly by parts of the media, even if they're good. As Grenade says, that probably won't have an impact on the viewers watching the show who enjoy it, but I'm sure C5/Endemol would prefer there to be positive word of mouth for the series rather than negative. Even though it doesn't bother me, I can however understand why fans get annoyed if various newspapers are printing incorrect stories about one of their favourite shows. Obviously it doesn't mean people are suddenly going to stop watching, and I'm sure the majority of fans are aware of that, but you wouldn't be thrilled would you if newspapers were making up false stories up about your favourite TV show or football team or whatever you enjoy a lot? Being annoyed by such stories is just a natural reaction.

Somehow I don't think it'll be CBS.

You are right about Desperate Housewives, im sure C4 wouldnt mind it ending if i had Pan Am at check in, ready to replace it.

You are also right about Awake, its a good idea, but will being 22 episodes hurt it. Its actually midseason, so that might help it.

You could always cheer yourself up by looking at the paper's circulation figures compared to a year or two ago.

Is 1.12m as expected/higher/lower than what people thought The Amazing Race would get?

I loved the American version a few years back, but have gone off it recently.

Of course your not going to be pleased but these papers write stories to get a reaction and hit a nerve with people. The more people talk about a particular story the more coverage that paper gets meaning more people buy the paper to see the story themselves and get more website hits. You just have to ignore them, it may be frustrating but its the most effective way.

Anything over 1m is usually termed a success in Australia.

Yikes, only 2.6m for Show Me The Funny (excl +1)!

I knew it wouldn't do well but I wasn't expecting it to launch so low. When was the last time ITV was below 3m in that slot? Several years ago I suspect.

What a terrible Summer for ITV's entertainment department - surely heads will roll...

Good God that's bad! Corrie got 9m last night according to ITV. If that was for the 8.30pm edition then Show Me The Funny pissed away a massive audience.

I reckon Show Me The Funny probably started alright and then lost audience throughout the hour. It kind of picked up towards the end but the first 20-30 minutes was absolutely dire. I think they got it wrong focussing too much on the location, I'd have liked to have seen more of the standup routines. (as toe-curlingly awful as a few of them were)

Before seeing it I was thinking mid 3's for it, but then having watched it I guessed 2.8 so not too far off what it got last night. I could see Jason Manford returning to 8 Out of 10 Cats very soon.

It's doing okay, but a bit lower than I thought to be honest for a fairly high profile show on the #1 network. But then the same happened with The X Factor last year and Seven brought it back for a second year, so it may still get a recommission.

Not surprised by Show Me The Funny at all- up against tough competition in Summer in a slot not known for entertainment. Also the fact The Marriage Ref, Odd One In, Born To Shine have all flopped aswell as Popstar To Operastar and Penn & Teller underperforming.

What does surprise me though is how high New Tricks is! 8.7m in a Summer slot is fantastic!

Absolutely superb for New Tricks. What a powerhouse!

Channel 5 held up well last night with Police Interceptors improving to 1.3m/5.6% and Bad Boys pulling in a healthy 1.35m/6.8%, thrashing Sirens which slumped further to 0.96m/5.4% for C4.

So why was New Tricks so low last weeks by its own standards, I know 7.6m is good by any other show but the other 2 ep were 8.3m and 8.7m overnight.

Something similar happened for its last summer run in 2009. It started with 8.1m/34%, but fell to 6.8m/29% the following week against ITV1's revamped The Bill (4.5m/19%). A week later New Tricks nudged up slightly to 6.9m/30% vs 4.2m/18% for The Bill. And by the run's end, New Tricks was back up to 7.7m/33% vs 3.6m/15% for The Bill.

I guess it will fluctuate a bit depending on its competition but it's always going to be a high rating show, no doubt about that.

Brilliant for the soaps compared to lately, and wow for Hollyoaks, that is one of the highest ratings on just C4 alone I remember, surely the highest of the year?
