Oh wow, when I said this morning New Tricks had been known to beat same day broadcasts of Coronation ST in the past, I didn't think it would of happened again last night - great stuff. New Tricks even ahead of the tape checked Corrie ratings. Eastenders seems a bit low; in recent years EE normally maintains above 8 million on July Mondays but then falls to or slightly below 8 million during August Mondays. Decent rating for Emmerdale last night though, share not far off Eastenders.

Nice boost for the News at Ten there as well.

They commission 13 episodes at a time and run them in blocks of 6 or 7. It's not entirely consistent how many they run annually but this is the fifth block in about 2 and a half years.

It makes sense for ITV to moev the schedule an hour later, so Penn & Teller is up against a soap rather than another light entertainment format. Not sure if it will benefit it though. Show Me The Funny is being burned off before it even begins - if they had any hope for it they'd hold it back and air it after one of the big two. The amount of bad figures about for ITV reminds me of the early naughties, though.

As for last night - NewTricks performed brilliantly. Mind you, everything did at least reasonably.

Just coming back from the North East, anyone know the average for Geordie Shore. It really has divided people over there, with the local MP calling for it to be cancelled.

The trouble with new ITV1 shows at the moment is that you think that they they've reached the bottom of the barrel and then they surprise you by going even deeper. People realise that which is why their new shows are not doing well

It's probably said local MP and the "locals" who moaned about it that ensured it's ratings stayed steady during the series.

I just Googled it and it seemed to get around 300,000 viewers. Not bad for a channel most people think just shows music videos, but which in reality( pun intended) has become a home for reality shows like Geordie Shore and Paris Hilton's BFF that maybe are too controversial or have too low ratings for ITV2 or Channel 5.

I don't think anyone thinks MTV shows music videos these days!

It is a misnomer, though. However, it does seem to make its money from reality shows that the other channels won't touch.
To me reality seems to be a changing genre. Five years ago it would be very likely ITV would have shown Geordie Show in peak time, most likely on its main channel. Nowadays these shows seem more confined to digital channels and the more banal and trashy ones are considered off limits to someone like ITV.

I never actually knew how popular New Tricks was, that 8.3M figure really stunned me.

I think they hit the bottom of the barrel about five years ago. Yet the last two years has seen some attempt at showing programmes that people other than soap and reality show fans want to watch.

It's funny because I see MTV as the birthplace for many a reality genre.

The Real World was the first incarnation of Big Brother, The Osbournes lead to just about every reality-soap out there and Jersey Shore has spun so many remakes worldwide it's almost unreal if you're not touched by the "orange maffia". Apart from that there's The Hills which set the bar for the `scriptedŽ reality series.

They might not exactly be highbrow but in a lot of cases it has been that where MTV leads, the others follow.

I know that Germany is a lot more into both gender football than we are, but I do think BBC and ITV should show the Women World Cup and BBC1 and ITV1. Bet it would do pretty well - ~2/3m for normal games and ~6m for England maybe.

Thanks Bushmills, really good rating for Luther. It is intriguing that despite being in the same slot, it has not seen the same drop off of viewers from the series premiere as last year did.

The actress who played Raquel in Only Fools and Horses has just said on This Morning that there were plans for an Only Fools and Horses Christmas Special to celebrate the 30th year of the show before the death of John Sullivan.

Last year's chart for comparison (there were no new entries after that post).

C4 and C4 +1 are overnight ratings, C4 official are from the Barb website.
All overnight ratings are averages for the full slot running time, rounded to 1 decimal place.
Shows are ranked in order of overnight ratings.
Each show only gets one mention in the list.
Come Dine With Me would chart in 2011 ~ 2.6m but don't have exact rating

Would have made for interesting scheduling with a feast of comedy already being suggested on here: Miranda, The Royal Bodyguard, Mrs Brown, Ab Fab, Comedy Christmas Roadshow, OFAH special...

Alot of people were excited about a return to live stream.

Since we are so interested in the Social Media of C5, alot of negative comments about lack of live feed have began to pop up....
