Really surprised the Harry Potter programme didn't do better! Its been trending on twitter since 7.30 last night, its still trending now!

Just shows trending topics mean absolutely nothing in the tv world!

Harry Potter clip show tanked as I predicted. Just not strong enough for 2 hours of prime.

Terrible for Beaver Falls.

Here's a question - when was the last time ITV was under 3m for every 9pm weekday slot in one week? 3 out of 3 so far....

Absolutely dire for Potter.

Not 100pct sure as that HP rating is an average for 2 hours. It might've been ahead in the 9pm hour. Really close between the 2 channels though.

When you look at it from a demos perspective I think ITV will be happy though. Its the same story as P&T "tanking".

she has done very well, and had the kind of luck better actress never have.

That said she was always a good actress, and this role seems to really fit her.

This is an amazing get for her first Hollywood role.

8 O Clock Heroes continue to do well for Five, cant help but wonder if the shield is meant to rip off Captain Amercia.

It launched on Virgin, July 20th, 2010, so now in its second year. I would expect the contract to be for twelve month periods..

Now here's something that I talk about a lot. Never believe for one second that just because something trends on Twitter that it's always a big hit or being watched by huge numbers. It only takes roughly 12,000 mentions for something to trend worldwide.

The producer of Show Me The Funny said it was the third top trend worldwide for the first show. Then the ratings came out the next day and we all know what New Tricks did to it don't we?

Cannot imagine that Sky have much of an incentive to offer a non premium rate HD movie channel to its customers as many might regard that as a good alternative to the subs they pay for Sky movies themselves.

More 4 HD will be an asset to Sky, Film 4 HD could be more of a liability to their desire to get the majority of customers to take the top tiers.

Not a good night for either of the main 2 channels. Very rare to see BBC1 below 3.5m for the entire 7pm - 10pm period. I thought the Olympics documentary at 7pm would have done better given the lead-in and how well The One Show does in that slot. Perhaps everyone has been avoiding it though as they expected another One Show repeat. Harry Potter clip show did poorly on ITV, perhaps it should have gone on a Saturday 16:30-18:30 before the HP movies air.

BBC2 had a bit of a low night with nothing getting close to 2 million. Channel 4 and Channel 5 both had pretty decent evenings though. Particularly 24 Hours in A&E on C4, which matched last week's series high and on C5 Removal Men: Pickfords did well for the 8pm slot.

Just noticed on the BBC press office that Casualty seems to be starting its 26th series a good 3 weeks earlier than usual on 13th August - no break between series this year! If it still follows the 48-episode series length, I'd imagine this is to clear the decks for the Olympics next year.

Oh that's interesting. It's definitely the new series as new cast members are joining. I had previously posted that Casualty would take a 5 week break but looks like my prediction was wrong. Perhaps they will take a longer break next year then from mid July - September.

I thought Daybreak would have completely collapsed again now its the summer holidays. Lorraine with Kate Garraway (does Lorraine ever actually present her own show?) is holding up too, although the shares must be slightly worrying. But they could just be artificially reduced due to children watching the kids channels.

It might be because its the 25th anniversary on 6th September so it would be daft them returning for a new series on the date of the anniversary.

Providing Casualty has no break round Christmas, episode 48 of the next series will be on 7th July. I do suspect it might have a break at Christmas though otherwise there would be episodes on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, so if it is not on then, it will finish on 21st July, with Olympics beginning on 27th July 2012.

Does anyone know if it is stated anywhere on the BBC website how many episodes of EastEnders, Holby City, Casualty etc are in the next few years, as it were? Not sure if that makes sense, I'm sure it normally says somewhere how many episodes are intended to be produced and screened within a specific time period. Maybe I'm wrong.

Holby City normally has 52 episodes per year, although last year they did 55 - I think the intention was that they would do 3 x 2-episode weeks during the year, although this backfired as sporting fixtures meant they had to move some of the regular Tuesday episodes as well and had to do more 2-episode weeks than originally planned.

Casualty does 48 episodes per year - this is per year rather than series, so I think the requirement is 48 across 12 months. For example, the last series was 49 episodes, so this current series is 47 to compensate for for the slight 'runover'.

I think you may be right about Casualty taking a break over Christmas - it's rated quite poorly over the festive season in recent years (not helped by the BBC's random scheduling such as last year's Bank Holiday Monday slot ) so I'd imagine they'd rather jetisson it in favour of something else for a week or two. This might also coincide with the move to the new Cardiff studios.

PS Don't forget it also breaks for one week's Eurovision in May!
