can see why CBB is launching on a wednesday!

thank you BBC for repeating sherlock, i missed it the first time round.

i'm a big EE fan but i would rather it takes a break than be shunted around the schedules

a big cliffhanger is a brilliant idea!

Yeh it did but BBC2 is a stronger channel than Channel 5 in general. The slot averages on C5 are lower than those on BBC2, so we have to judge their programs accordingly. That's why I said 1.2m at 8pm on C5 was decent but BBC2 had a bit of a low night. At 9pm though, I would say 1.2m is OK rather than "decent" for Channel 5.

Incidently I don't know what the exact slot averages are but would be interested if someone could post some.

Exactly. Disappointed to see season two of The Good Wife getting a second run on More4 and therefore no HD showing.

Not sure if anyone bothered watching the ITV results presentation webcast.

One theme which Crozier repeated several times was the vital importance of channel brands.

He said that viewing to "independent" channels was down between 15% and 20% this year - a massive drop. He didn't define this exactly but he was basically referring to everything not in the major families. So I think he meant everything except:

BBC family
ITV family
C4 family
C5 family
Sky family
UKTV family

What he was saying was that it wasn't just the content that mattered but the channel brand was also key. So it was critical to always remain focussed on building the brand.

(I guess this isn't a big surprise to readers of this thread, we all know that an identical programme willl rate very differently depending upon what channel it is on).

One other snippet from Crozier - he said Freeview streams are now worth much less than £10m per year.

Apparently a new stream is coming available next year which ITV (through SDN) will be able to sell. An analyst suggested streams were worth "£10m to £12m" and Crozier replied that they weren't now worth that much.

He didn't give a figure but the way he said it I would say he meant quite a lot less.

Partly because Sky either re-branded or killed the old Virgin channels (Living, Channel One, Bravo, etc)

One Murdoch documentary too many.

And The Killing murdered their share in the 11pm hour - mega ouch. I know it was only a repeat, but still, that is incredibly poor.

Great once again for 24 Hours in A&E though. That's been such a strong programme for them.

I would have thought he would have included Living Group in his calcuations on a consistent basis - ie not "independent" in 2010 and still not "independent" now (as part of Sky).

But as he was talking in general terms we don't know for certain.

Just watch it. I'm sure you will adapt perfectly well to the lower picture quality if the programme is enjoyable enough.

I appreciate your frustration that C4 are wasting their HD rights to the programme, but it would not stop me watching a show I liked. That's just ridiculous!

P.S. Film4 HD is an excellent exclusive for Virgin- nonsense to suggest otherwise.

Happy being a poor man's Channel 4? I haven't seen the demos for the programme, but if we assume around 20% of its viewers were aged 16-34, and that's quite a generous assumption on my part, then it got about 580k in that demo, less than 24 Hours in A&E's 600k.

Interesting to see Casualty going straight into its new series without a month's break. I guess post-Lottery film repeats would have left no room for the new series of John Bishop's Britain to be fitted in before Match of the Day.

Does that mean it will take a longer than usual break next year?

wait to you see the demos- dont "assume" I'd say its 16-34 figure is closer to 900k.

I'm willing to bet you a months Daily Express subscription that I'm closer

Probably, unless they go straight into the next series after that. This is the first time there's been no break, though.

Yeah, there's that event in London taking up a few weeks next Summer, isn't there?

On this occassion Dancc was almost baing on - it had 578k in the 16 - 34 age bracket - its heaviest skew was in the 45 - 55 bracket which had 565k

In other ratings news yesterday, Pointless broke the 20% share (for the first time since the move?) with 2.54m (20.3%)

What did 24 Hours in A&E have in 16-34s last night at 9pm? The 601k figure was including +1, so I'm guessing it had ~535k excluding +1?

Thanks . So ultimately, the Potter countdown did win the 16-34s vs 24HIA&E then when doing a like-for-like comparison. But a way off from what GeorgeS predicted.

Fantastic rating for Pointless by the way. I think an episode last week had 2.6m, but like you said, that was probably the first time it broke 20% which is excellent for such a competitive timeslot.
