Motorola V220 USB driver
Elasticband
21-08-2004
Does anyone out there know where I can obtain a usb driver for the V220 phone or if one even exists.

So far all the Moto USB drivers I have tried are not recognised as the correct driver for the phone.

I am using windows 98SE OS.

Here's hoping....

Hi Elasticband,

I had exactly the same problem, and spent hours trawling the internet for a download. I finally found one at http://www.motclub.com/html/programs.htm#mpt.

Just click on the line near the top on the left called " Motorola Mobile PhoneTools " and then choose the version called "Motorola Mobile PhoneTools 1.23c Original English" (click on the 1 just after it to start the download.)

Once you have downloaded that programme, run the install etc and then once it is up and running, click on the menu button on the phone and choose help. From here you can choose the upgrade function which will take you to a site to download the latest upgrade to give you the full working programme which I can guarantee to be working as I am currently using it for my V220.

Only problem is that both files are about 20Mb so if you are using dial up it will take a little while but isnt too bad (about an hour and a quarter for each for me).

Hope this helps, any more info needed just contact me,

Matt

P.S. If you are also needing a cable, try www.tccables.co.uk and search for the appropriate mini USB cable on there. Only £3.64 including P&P as you don't need a branded Motorola one.

Thanks for that Matt

I've sent you a PM outlining the problem....

It must be something to do with Windows 98 it seems to want a dedicated driver.....

Hi

I've just bought a V200 and have the same problem as many others - can't find a USB Driver. This forum has provided the best quality answers. Many others seem to be links to porn sites !

I tried downloading Mobile Phone Tools and the upgrade. This worked just as described - thanks. It still didn't provide the Driver though. The application works OK with my V600 on bluetooth, but Win2000 still asks for a Driver.

When the phone is plugged in, Win2000 goes through the wizard and asks for a Motorola V220 Driver. This tells me the cable is correct and the Operating System can see the new device.

Has anybody got a .INF and a .SYS file for the V220 ????

thanks

Hi,

What is the Motorola V220 like? What features does it have, and is it good?

The V220 is a cut-down version of the V600. Motorola seem to have produced a huge range of phones which all look similar and have similar features.

First the problems:

The V220 doesn't have bluetooth, inrfa red or serial connection. Just USB.

The screen resolution is not as good or large as the V600

The case is not as well made as the V600

There is no email client

The WAP & MMS set-up is non standard (still not got it working)

The manual doesn't explain the advanced features of the phone

The USB driver seems impossible to find - therefore no PC connection

The good point(s)

It's cheap

The manual is Cr*p....

All it does is state the obvious....

But the phone is cheap and small...

Hi
The screen resolution: Does that mean the pictures will turn out at a qualitity that I dont like? Or they turn out alright?

The WAP & MMS settings: Do you have to do this all by yourself ie: set it up. What do you mean by non-standard.

Question 1

When you sit the V220 next to the V600 ther V220 screen looks grainy. The quality is not as good. I don't know if you will find it suitable, as I don't know what your expectations are.

Question 2

The GPRS settings don't make use of the normal terms such as "Access Point" etc. However, I have now found a section on the hellomoto website which allows the WAP & MMS settings to be automatically sent to the handset.
