Digital Spy Music Reviews - opinions?
I regularly read the DS music reviews and am just wondering what everyone else thinks of them?
Personally, I think a few are spot on and I do enjoy reading some of them. However, does anyone feel that they are sometimes biased towards/against some artists. For example, GaGa repeatedly gets 5/5 with every single one of her singles and albums (except her debut which got 3/5 before she properly broke out into worldwide fame). Then there's Katy Perry who was given 3/5 for I think all of her singles from her debut album (even the album itself got 3/5) yet all of her singles from this era have got 5/5 (maybe a couple got 4/5). On top of that, JLS' singles get 4/5. Really? Their new one is absolutely terrible with dire lyrics yet it gets such a high rating. Do the reviewers even take into consideration the lyrical content?I've seen a pattern that most ballads get 3/5 on DS and the more up-tempo/explosive the song is, the higher the rating is going to be. |

No.
The reviews are perfect. Just like our Moderating Overlords. Our Moderating Overlords can do no wrong. *Reports OP*

Just noticed that DS has given Cher Lloyd's Swagger Jagger 4 out 5 stars.
Does someone actually get paid to write these reviews? DS music is a laughing stock quite frankly. |

I think they've gotten a little lazy as of late. Single reviews don't come around that much and album reviews are literally unheard of. Digitalspy spend too much time creating ridiculous showbiz reports that no one wants to read, such as "Kym Marsh's opinion on subject that has nothing to do with her."

Often over-generous.
That said, when they review my favourite artists I still feel a little ![]() ![]() when they get 5 Stars.

As much as I love Digitalspy I think their music reviews are very biased, and quite general to say the least, I for one never rely on them or give them much importance.
I think the movie reviews are quite a bit better though. |

Pointless, It's probably based off the opinion of one person.

The blind love for Gaga does let them down. Sure many of her songs are classics but Judas was rated 5/5 within minutes of the song leaking.

I do like their 'First Listen' articles though, like a quick first impression, I always find them a good read. |

What bugs me about many of their reviews is how they keep making unnecessary gay remarks. For example, if reviewing a club banger it will be described as being "as camp as....." and "expect to hear this down your local gay club" or something to that ilk.
The most ridiculous review I've seen was for Adele's Set Fire To The Rain where the reviewer was promoting the promiscuous gay stereotype. To quote him; 'During a recent promo stint, Adele admitted that she wanted to write a "gay anthem", the result of which is the latest spinoff from her multimillion-selling 21. Given that its lyrical content is about copping off with someone shortly after a devastating break-up, we're inclined to say she's on the money' Eh?! How that even got the ok to be posted beggars belief. It is incredibly offensive. |

When I first started visiting Digital Spy regularly, back in 2009, the reviews were generally very well balanced, objective, and good to read, whoever the artist in question was.
But since last year they seem to have decided to use the reviews to demonstrate their fanboy-ism towards all the big pop acts 'of the moment', so now most of the reviews basically consist of "OMG Lady Gaga/whoever is so amazing! We love them so much!! 5 stars!!!" It's embarrassing to read. There's a certain batch of well-known acts who they are obsessed with and absolutely refuse to criticise, whatever they do - JLS, Cheryl Cole, The Saturdays, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Kylie etc. or indeed anyone associated with any of them (i.e. Cher Lloyd). I suspect DS just want to pander to the fans of those acts who they know will keep visiting the site if they do. Way to lose all their credibility as a music site |

If DS rightly panned Ms. Lloyd's dreadful record her record company & PR would take the hump and stop feeding DS endless drivel about their artist. DS need content every day no matter how dubious it is..

Their new one is absolutely terrible with dire lyrics yet it gets such a high rating. Do the reviewers even take into consideration the lyrical content?
