Headphones for phone/MP3 player etc BUT with detachable cable - possible?

Like many people before me, I constantly go through headphones which eventually will lose the sound in one ear, due presumably to the way the cable has to get stuffed in pockets, pulled in and out of the headphone socket etc. Now this time rather than give in to buying yet another £10 pair of headphones which will inevitably be doing the same thing in another few months or so do you know of any headphones out there where I can just replace the cable because it is detachable.
We are not talking about big cans, but the phones you need for your phone/MP3 player etc walking round town. Are there any companies out there that make them with a detachable cable that you can just replace?

I've had sony headphones in the past which feature a detachable cable. You can have it normal length or remove the extension piece and have a shorter length, ideal if you carry your mp3 player in a breast or jacket pocket. Saves on all the excess cable.

Just buy from pound shop.

They're all very badly made, not even cold welded, just crimped.

Perversely, it's cheaper buy new phones, than to buy the 3.5mm connector from Maplin & solder it on yourself!

depending on the phone/mp3 player you have, have you considered a set of bluetooth headphones? that would do away with the wire entirely

of course, your device would need bluetooth. most phones will let you play music over bluetooth, i think the ipod touch does too?

I have never seen what youmare asking for, but have you ever considered taking better care of your headphones, i keep mine in a small sweet tin and protects them perfectly.

It might be too much to ask but as the headphones are used out and about they do have to be rugged, Iain's solution is good but only if I had that kind of money, on the other hand The £200+ plus spend on those Shure headphones could buy enough of those regular headphones to last quite a few years.

the 215s are £85 on Amazon. still not cheap, but a shure do make some of the best earphones out there.

Perhaps I could make room in the budget by not purchasing a BBC licence fee this year, , but seriously whilst I'm sure those are excellent it looks to be an endless chain of regular headphones.

maybe if one pair breaks, you could back to the shop / manufacturer and ask for more pairs for free, what with you already having paid for the first pair and all?

There's no need to descend to the level of being personally insulting with your patronising little joke which is related to the thread I created about BBC programmes airing on subscription channels. TBH Iain I thought you were a more serious debater, but that post reveals that like many others you think nothing of acting like a forum bully looking for something you can get on those you disagree with to stick them with.

shish - i took your to be good natured banter, which i returned with more good natured banter, as i thought would have been evident from your and my

i didn't realise you were OK with making a joke, but not taking a joke back.
