also no fast forward or rewind, pause etc. Getting a message.. 'temporarily unavailable, try again'

Any ideas what the problem is? It's a siver box which i purchased from bt a few years ago. I don't pay for a vision package.

Cheers.

Reboot it and try again. Oddness like this is often fixed by a reboot. Bear in mind that the recordings menu will take a while to appear after the reboot - normally within 2 mins though.

If that doesn't work then reboot your hub/router.

Thanks, I had turned it off at the box then on again with no luck. Then after reading your post ,unpluged it and when turned back on everything now back to normal.

Cheers.

I been getting this too. got an engineer coming with the new black box. BT never hesitated in giving it to me this time....

since the iplayer software update, the silver box will at random stop or loose the ability to record.

I get the same symptoms. going into the recording menu seems slow and sluggish.

so either a physical HDD driver issue (drops disk into PIO instead of DMA), or more likely the case, silver box runs out of resources since it is weaker than the black and the PVR side crashes. reboot cures it but not for long.

Yes, I've seen the mention of a new black box on here, but I'm not sure if I'd get a free one as I bought the silver box and don't pay for a 'package'

Maybe someone on here knows? Cheers.

Thanks, I may get in touch with him. But I will also see what BT can do, as when they sold me the box they never said that it would be redundant in 4 or 5 years.

With respect, isn't everything? I would have thought that 4 or 5 years was a good innings for any STB.

got a black box this morning from the enginner.

HDD failure is what it was.

new box is much faster, menus are more smooth. output seems a little brighter too. (probably due to HDMI 1.3). Iplayer loads much quicker.

importantly the box reported a memory load of 45% before the update went in, after that reported 52% (probably for the extra rendering services for iplayer). still much better than 88% on the silver box.

Boot time is faster too. with an authentication of less that 5 secs.

Box is way way way better. he also said (since he was an advanced vision enginner as his badge shows), that they are getting rid of replay as a whole and giving each replay it's own interface. so netplayer will get one, demand 5 will get one, and so fourth. like how iplayer is at the moment.

next year though, no more windows, he has clear authority that a new system will be in place but won't be running windows. More likely linux it seemed. (that for youview?)

Anyhows that's the lowdown

As you know - I'm a day one subscriber so my box is quite old but it's still chugging away very well - even with the fan disconnected lol !!.

yes but you got box 1.0, i had box 1.1 (the box with no modem, and only 1 usb port) BT went through a phase of swapping V1.1 boxes to V1.0 boxes then later started swapping 1.1 boxes with 2.0 boxes.

something was up with those.
