Doigts croisés! We'd better have a whip-round for you if you lose your €15!
Seriously, would be useful to know whether this little "subterfuge" still works..... Bon courage sordax! |

I live in France but don't have French TV.
That said, if you can tell me whether or not I can find a TNT sat card in store, I'm willing to buy it and send it to you. DM if you're interested. Cheers! -Eban |

Firstly thank you for your kind offer. I've been in Paris couple mounts ago and tntsat cards are not available in stores, you can just purchase on websites and only for France. If post trick doesn't work I can inform you about for your kind offer again to use your France address if you accept it. Thank you again. Quote:

Do I need to activate tye new card and if so, how? No the activation is automatic when you put the card in the slot. Most probably the problem is because the firmware of your box is not up to date. TNTSAT has made changes to its conditional access last spring in order to combat piracy and this requires that the boxes have an up-to-date firmware. If your box is an SRT6410 or 6420, the latest firmware version should be 2.2. If your current firmware version is 1.8 or above, it will update automatically at the next transmission, assuming you don't forget to put your box in standby at least once a day in order that it detects the availability of the update when you switch it on. If your box has not received and update since a very long time (firmware version 1.7 or below), it might not accept the new update ... If your box is an SRT6415, the up-to-date firmware version is 1.6. Link to the information screen of an SRT6410 with an old firmware (above) and the latest one (below): http://img.imagesia.com/fichiers/b1/...b15y_large.jpg |

I have a three srong SRT6410 doorstops: two refused to take updates and the other developed a power supply fault. In the meantime I have got a humax that works fine and a Fransat cam for the TV that also works well.
getting back to the theme of this thread.... I had renewed the card for one of the strongs and it is still here unused. It was never in a receiver. I think the 4 years started in Jan even if it wasn't activated but I could always put it in Humax to activate it and read the life. Anyone got anything interesting to swap fot it? |

FWIW my experience is that the four years don't start ticking until you do use the card. I kept one for eight months without problems, and when I finally put it in the receiver the four year period started from that time, not the time it had been sent to me.

The same applies to the Sagem ISD74 and 75 which have exactly the same hardware but a different firmware and a different remote control (not compatible with Strong). Regarding the refusal to take updates, it's because it has missed one critical update (the v 1.8) which made these models become "canal ready" in 2011. But I think if you try again now it might accept the current update 2.2 because this impossibility to update the firmware except by the factory has made a mini-scandal so the update file has been modified to be accepted also by receivers with older firmware versions. Generally the cards delivered in TNTSAT packs have a limit date which is more than 1 year away from the packaging date. So except if the receiver has stayed very long on a shelf, you will benefit of the full 4 years duration. Normally the limit activation date should be indicated on the outside of the TNTSAT pack. |

@ marceljack
Does that apply to the "renewed" cards that come in the post though? I don't remember there being any date-limite indicated on that, although I probably didn't look very hard. Salut! |

The card is delivered glued on a letter on which the limit date is indicated at the bottom. I ordered one last year (in april or may) and the limit date indicated was january 1st 2013. You can see a copy of the accompanying letter here: http://img.imagesia.com/fichiers/b3/...b3j7_large.jpg |

yes, the letter advised me to activate it before 1st jan otherwise the 4 years countdown starts from then. I never put the card in a receiver.
regarding the software, I had contacted Strong at the time and they wanted the value of the receiver again to restore them unless i could produce the receipt from 4+ years previously. I an interested to hear they have relented and allow the updates again but I am not sure I trust the Strong products any more. I guessed the power supply was some version of capacitor trouble but as I was disillusioned with the receivers I never bothered to look. Is there an update on line at the moment to try the update again? |

The terminal will detect it when waking up from standby and will inform the user who just has to accept it. http://www.strong.tv/documents/press...on_message.pdf |

.
The discussion prompted me to look at the Strong receivers to see if I got a different response and the status was: No.1. power supply problem does not start, No.2 boots and works on non TNT channels. Firmware 1.3 - does not update, does not recognise new card. No.3 boots and hangs showing no picture. display reads "menu" So I had a look inside box 1 and, as predicted there was a big fat capacitor well past its best before date. simple answer was to pull the power board from brain dead box 3 and insert it in box 1. This worked fine and box 1 is now working perfectly and is already on version 2.2 . It reads a recent card no problem. So from three Strong 6410 receivers: one works, one needs software but I refuse to pay for this and one is total scrap. I would not describe myself as a satisfied customer Mr Strong !!!! Thanks for the advice as it at least got me moving to see what could be recovered from this lot. |

I replaced my 6410 with a Humax, and after repairing the PSU in the Strong I moved it to another room, where it is sitting vertically (fastened to a wall under a small flat screen TV). Rather to my surprise it runs totally cold, whereas before, sitting on a shelf, it was quite warm. Looks like the airflow works better when it's on its side! Hopefully it will last longer. It works fine for occasional TNTSAT & Freesat use.

Anyway it's very strange that one of your receiver has version 1.3 which is more than 4 years old ! |

Placing the 6410 (which has vents on each side) one side up, the other down certainly eases the airflow, thus reducing the temperature around the PSU. |

@ marceljacj and irishdriver
Thanks for the clarification. I must dig out my letters (if I've still got them) and see if they had date-limites too - they probably did but I don't remember their looking quite like what we see in your picture... Anyway, academic now as my cards are activated. |

[quote=marceljack;68387127]Did you try recently if the receiver with the old firmware now accepts a satellite update ?QUOTE]
Yes, last Saturday, but it refused - it said no updates available. It is still 1.3 as I threw it in the cellar around the time 1.8 came out as it had refused updates then and was no longer useable or useful. |

Is it possible to use an activated TNT Card in anything other than a French TNT Receiver?
