Is it possible to use an activated TNT Card in anything other than a French TNT Receiver?
TNTSAT cards are only usable in TNTSAT receivers and TNTSAT receivers do not accept Viaccess cards from other providers. ![]() The other provider of TNT channels (FRANSAT on Atlantic Bird 3, 5°W) offers a CI+ module which can be used in TV sets with satellite reception and a CI+ slot, or in STBs with a CI+ slot. |

Recently, I bought a Fransat card/CAM combo and popped it in my Technisat Digit ISIO, which has two CI+ slots. It decoded all the SD channels but not the HD ones. The combo only works fully in certain Samsung TVs available in France. Not sure if there are any other satellite boxes with a CI+ slot available in France that will fully decode SD and HD. A Fransat card on it own only works (legally) in Fransat receivers, in the same way as TNTSAT boxes. |

Not quite true.

I understood that the only drawback of non-Fransat certified TVs is that they don't classify the channels according to LCNs. Contrarily to TNTSAT, FRANSAT has 2 different card models: one for SD only and the other for HD and SD (the CI+ module is sold with the HD card, on which HD is written). Maybe HD would work if you change the country in the installation menu to "France" instead of "UK" ? Quote:

Some Fransat receivers (Aston for exemple) have 2 card slots whereas the same model for TNTSAT has only one. |

The version of the ISIO I've got was got from amazon.de and was loaded with the 'domestic' firmware. I get a message on power up that the CAM/card is happy. Perhaps it would be happier if it talked to some French firmware and give me HD too

Ci+ is a standard so if your TV/receiver is CI+ equipped the cam should work. My FRANSAT CAM works in my German Samsung TV - which is not the same model as the recommended French Samsungs. A Friend has one working in a phillips Ci+ equipped TV. |

Yes
HD FRANSAT works fine....in fact the picture is great!! ...my Tv is a "D" series Samsung so one year previous to the series recommended. When you switch on the Tv you get a message from the cam that the handshake with the TV has been successfully performed. one thought is that the HD not working could be a HDCP - High Definition Content Protection- handshake problem between the receiver and the TV. An HDCP interface must encrypt high-value content when told to do so. However non-HDCP content is passed by the HDCP interface unencrypted. This could account for SD working but not HD White Monk do you know if your receiver and TV are both HDCP compliant? can you eliminate this possibility? |

Hope the moderators don't mind this thread continuing off topic ![]() Quote:
White Monk do you know if your receiver and TV are both HDCP compliant? can you eliminate this possibility? My Technisat Digit ISIO is the S1 model intended for the German market. The HD+ card I have does not need to be put in a CI+ slot in a CAM, but goes into one of the card slots. With the Fransat CAM and card in a CI+ slot, I get the correct handshake message on switch on, but no HD. I understand that the ISIO S International Edition is physically the same but with different firmware. The S and S1 firmware files have different file extensions and don't appear to be interchangeable, so I am on the 'S1' firmware. Perhaps the S International Edition would work with both the HD+ and Fransat cards in their respective CAMs and CI+ slots. |

I think you have to go deeper into the TV specs to see if it has HDCP as the HDCP protocol insists that the content is coded until the display device. If your TV does not support HDCP then it will not show the HD.
How old is the TV? First generation HD "ready" TVs were usually not so equipped as the protocol came later. It is only from 2005 that HD Ready had to include HDCP - i think!! |

. while we are grabbing at straws.....
I just read in a German forum that there are sometimes problems with your receiver with the HDCP setting on AUTO and that changing it to ON can help. Don't know if this is the same in your version. Are the German HD+ channels working? |

Another important point: is the FRANSAT card you are using a HD model (HD is written on the card if so).
Normally if it's the original card supllied with the CAM, it should be HD, however if for one reason or another the card was originally packed with an SD box, it's only valid for SD channels. |

giving up
My Strong just says there are no updates. It has said this from the day I bought it. So it is still on 1:1.
I am now resigned to dumping it and buying something new. How ridiculous to not allow side loading firmware. It's been a heap of junk since I got it. Can anyone recommend a retailer in France who would send out a new receiver to the UK. Also any recommendations on good box? |

I live in France but don't have French TV (Sky FTW haha) so I can't give you any recommendations on what's the best receiver out there. That said, to buy your new receiver Amazon.fr is probably one of the best option. You can order using your Amazon UK account. That's what I do when I order groceries or stuff for the home on Amazon UK ![]() Cheers! |

If you can't find what you want there try tv corner.com - only niggle is that they ask for proof of ID so you need to email a scan of your passport - wasn't too happy about that it hasn't caused any problems (as far as I know!). |

If it is for TNTSAT and the firmware is too old (i.e. more than 2 years and not "canal ready" from factory or by OTA), it will not accept current firmware updates by OTA and it has to be returned to Strong for updating... You can see in the information menu if the firmware is canal ready or not: -if it is, "valeur CAMLOCK" is CSAT V, -if not, "valeur CAMLOCK" is TNTSAT If it is for Fransat, they do not exclude updates other than by satellite (for example by the user). The question is whether or not there are updates available for your model. |

And, FWIW, my original TNTSAT card (TNTSAT 4, expiry 3/2012), has not yet expired, and still works.

I don't think that any TNTSAT 4 card should have reached expiry in 2012 as they have been distributed from 2009 or 2010 only to my knowledge. The first cards were TNTSAT 3 (most of these cards should have reached expiry). |

Metronic 441631 cannot activate new TNT card
I have a Metronic 441631 SD box which I have not used for a while. A friend of mine mentioned that he had had to renew his Viaccess TNT card, so I turned on my box and found I had to do the same. So I paid my €15 to TNTSat(!), the card arrived this morning, and I inserted it. Only to find it cannot be activated. Having contacted Metronic, it seems that a software update is required to activate the new card, and that TNTSat are no longer sending it. The box can be updated by sending it to Metronic at a cost of €39. Is it really the case that the update is no longer available from TNTSat? If so I think I will stick to the BBC.....

I last posted in this thread in 2011. I have 2 TNTSat cards. The first expired 2 years ago and I got a friend in France to get me a new one.
The second is expiring shortly so I thought having read through the thread I would try and use the website. I think that the renewal page on the website has been updated so I thought I would post my experiences An earlier post suggested using the address format 23 Railway Cuttings East Cheam 75001 London L1 1AA Angleterre To get this I used Code Postal - 75001 Ville - London L1 1AA UK No et voie - 23 Railway Cuttings Complement d'adresse - East Cheam There is now an address checker and surprise surprise it did not recognise my address and I had to override it twice. The phone number is mandatory but will only accept a french number which is 1 digit shorter at 10 digits instead of the UK 11. I have a french sim so I used the number. No probs with the credit card I have received an email Cher Mr *****, Vous venez de renouveler votre carte TNTSAT et nous vous remercions de votre confiance. Nous vous confirmons le paiement de votre commande du **/**/2014, pour un montant de 15 E. Votre numéro transaction bancaire est le ******. Ci-dessous votre facture d'achat à conserver. Votre carte est en cours d'expédition, vous la recevrez très prochainement à l'adresse suivante : 23 RAILWAY CUTTINGS EAST CHEAM 75001 LONDON L1 1AA UK Bien cordialement, L'équipe TNTSAT I will let you know if it arrives |

Not good news then by the sound of it. Fortunately, I recently got myself a Fransat CI+ module and card off ebay and popped that into my ISIO - so far - so good
