Firstly, I think they all give as good as they get in the actual shows which let's not forget are edited heavily and can show contestants up both as being angels and/or devils. I think Melody was very assertive but her major flaws were being a poor listener and demonstrating a lack of empathy.

But unless we were actually part of the show, I doubt we can really get the slightest idea as to what the atmosphere, energy and experience is really like.

The nature of the beast is that they are all forced to shout loudest like chics in a bird's nest stretching their beaks out farthest in the hope of getting the food.

Secondly, the whole culture of the main show is about outrageous self promotion; they all do it. But this fact is not a justification for the type of interrogation of Melody about her business in the early part of the 'You're Fired' programme. If it is, why aren't they all quizzed this way?

She would have been quite justified in telling them all where to get off. She's not answerable to them or anyone, frankly.

Thirdly, I've always taken the 'You're Fired' Show to be a light hearted relaxed review of the real show with a relatively warm send off for each fired contestant. Trevor Nelson was appropriately honest and forceful.

But Ruby Wax. Where do I begin?

Sounding like an Apprentice candidate now, I reckon one of my strengths is to see the good in people; to attempt to see where they are coming from.

But with Ruby Wax, I am stumped. I find her masquerading as a savvy, smart, pithy, clever comic when really, she is just a bitter old bat.

Who exactly does she think she is? A female SAS?

I wanted to shout at her, 'Are you stupid, Ruby? What don't you understand about what Melody is saying?'.

Where Melody actually revealed quite candidly, honestly and I reckon quite bravely about her self esteem issue, Ruby Wax showed a complete lack of style.

In fact she left me with the conclusion that if anyone in that studio needed to get onto the Pychiatrist's couch about their personality issues, it was her.

She is the worst type of attention seeking commedienne who let it slip that she hates pretty women (get the couch out again).

Maybe realising that she went completely OTT in the opening salvo, she was reasonably polite thereafter. But her damage had been done.

There's nothing worse that a comic who tries so hard o be funny that you almost want to tell them that as the recipient of their smart-alec comments, you are not stupid and yes, you get it.

Dara has the ability to take the mickey out of people but without scraping at their dignity.

I reckon Wax is a basket case of the highest order.

Ruby - You're Fired!

PS I think I should confirm that I have nothing to do whatsoever with Melody, although maybe I wish I did!!!

lol tennisman - I've missed your posts since Wimbledon finished, but you made up for it with that cracker!

I think it's fine to poke fun at the candidates on You're Fired, and Melody shouldn't be an exception to that. But Ruby just kept on prodding and wouldn't leave the girl alone! It seemed to really unsettle Melody for the rest of the interview.

Hi Sid.

I am in shock after that stunning performance from Djokovic.

But from Wimbledon to Canary Wharf!

I agree. Rip into them as much as you want, but with a smile.

Dara shows them all how to do it. He's a very clever man.

Love Dara. Love Djokovic.

BH Sid I missed the Wimbledon thread and I love Wimbledon. Sorta glad Djokovic won because he hadn't won it before but I lurve Nadal. He's from Mallorca and I had a fab holiday there once at Puerto Portals - very posh. I thought you would love Nadal too.

Me too. Why can't I get into him? His game doesn't really excite me and his looks certainly don't. Nope, I'd much rather play ball games with Novak

Good to see you again by the way

What a great post, and i TOTALLY AGREE

When Dara was poking fun at her i was laughing along too, and so was most of the audience. As soon as that nasty witch opened her mouth and took the joke too far, continuing to just drill into the poor woman, i think everyone just felt uncomfortable, and sorry for Melody. Thats why everyone started cheering for Melody when she spoke.

She definitely is nothing more than a bitter old bat, trying to hide that bitterness behind 'humour', but not very well.

Agree with all that. Wax just came across as a jealous, bitter old hag.

Dara just took the same gentle, affectionate, mickey-taking approach he takes to all the candidates. But with Wax it seemed much more personal and bitter. It did seem as if the studio audience felt she'd went too far also.

Lighten up guys. Ruby is funny. Poundland on the moon lol.
That was about as funny as the particularly nasty dose of the shits I am currently enduring.

She has no natural wit and tries too hard.

I was no fan of Melody throughout the series but I think she conducted herself well tonight in the face of that plastic faced old harridan's pathetic attempts at comedy.

No, that is trying too hard. Ruby Wax is witty and clever.

I have never liked Ruby Wax and the panel this week were the worst all series. Not interesting, amusing or insightful.

Having said that Melody was my least liked apprentice this series. I just couldn't warm other at all, too ruthless, over confident and a very inflated opinion of herself. She was not a team player and gave her own opinion from the focus groups rather than that of the group.

Even though I have expressed my hate for Melody on one task (Paris) I do feel sorry for her and I didn't think she should of went, Tom was the one who should have went! Really annoys me, no backbone at all.

She didn't let it slip - she said it as a joke, the sort of self-attacking humour Jo Brand uses which draws the audience's attention to their comparative lack of looks and invites the audience to laugh at their curmudgeonly attitude towards the beautiful.

When I saw Wax on the show, I knew she would stick the boot in, but she went ott a bit.

I havent liked Melody since day one, but even I disliked Wax's silly savaging of this woman.

I'm not sure that Ruby took the right approach to Melody but why oh why did they miss the opportunity to dig into her "awards". Most of them are dubious or of little significance.(Zoe got a fairy prestigious award but didn't feel the need to go on about it).
Without Margaret to tear her claims to pieces at the interview stage then I had hoped that the You're Fired panel would have questioned her and got her to reveal the truth.
Oh, and I'm sorry Melody but I do not believe that your manner and the way you treat those around you, is just down to being vulnerable with self-esteem issues!! Pleeese

Ruby was the only one who actually kept going until Melody actually gave a half way understandable answer to the "What exactly DO you do?" question.

Melody has spent the entire series spouting the most unbelievable twaddle, and from Nick's interview the other week - made herself incredibly unpopular with the other candidates.

Its just a shame that she didn't ask her what work she actually DID do with all these famous people - from her own website it would appear that her "work with Al Gore" was nothing more than attending his seminar on Climate Change (and its relevance to what she says she does is exactly what???). Or that she didn't push her on the awards..... someone on here has found that one of the awards LS mentioned after the Paris boardroom was actually won by someone else... while Melody was shortlisted for it - she didn't win - and wasnt even one of the runners up!

Wax has mostly been in the shadow of the likes of French and Saunders, but she has had success off-screen.

she demolished Melody's facade in about 30 seconds - something LAS didn't manage in all those weeks. she's no idiot.

she cut completely through the consultancy crap and along with Dara the questions were something like -
yes I hear that, but what do you actually do?
OK - at 10 am - what will you be doing when at work?
what did they actually teach you?

even normally cuddly DJ got in on the act with "yeah, I interveiwed Al Gore too..."

At least she'll be more successful (or rather is) than Ruby Wax.

Bitter is as bitter does.

And some more for good measure.

Ruby is a very witty and intelligent person, she is certainly not bitter and has no need to be. She was direct with Melody, but Melody can take it. She is no wallflower and I do not believe for one minute that she has a self esteem issue. Impossible considering her career to date. (However,Melody was correct in saying she would try to show a vulnerable side in future more often and Ruby acknowledged this.) Ruby is in fact on Melody's side, for want of a better phrase, as she said she did not think she should have been fired and thought she would be in the final. It is Ruby's job is to get to the point!!! In a witty way of course.
