However, Nick then asks what her plan would have been if she had taken over, and it turned out she wanted to go more heavily into retailers. She wanted to go faster in the wrong direction. She got some stick for that, quite rightly. One can admire her honesty for admitting it, because the stupidity of it had already been highlighted in the earlier boardroom session. It doesn't change the fact that had her coup succeeded it would have been a disaster. That's what Lord Sugar disapproved of. If you pull a move like that, you need to be right.”
To be fair, though, Helen was only reacting to their experiences.
They had managed to get an order that would have made them £90 for a couple of hours work had the wholesaler not been shut.
Whilst it seemed (and, indeed, still does seem) odd to try and sell to retail, their
experience seemed to suggest that it worked.
Following Sugar's 'see what sells and sell more of it' mantra, they saw that they could sell in that manner and Helen wanted to try and do more of it. Which is
exactly what Sugar told them to do.
Personally I would have let my prior knowledge override what was, I thought, a flukey order but I don't think the strategy was quite as stupid as it was made out to be.
