I thought that since there was a worst story ever thread we should have a best story ever thread.

Feel free to discuss your favorite Who story from classic era to the new era.

I only started watching in 2005 so my favorite story ever would be The Stolen earth 2 parter with the Doomsday
2 parter and A good man goes to war close behind.

Sorry. I'm not playing.

I couldn't possibly think of a single candidate without immediately thinking of an alternative candidate.

I can very quickly and easily say MIDNIGHT from C21 DW. From C20 DW, or overall DW ... dunno ...

Totally agree with you on those two-parters, nothing else except maybe the Human Nature two-parter has come close. Rate Midnight highly as well though.

Classic Who, has to be The Caves Of Androzani, though Earthshock, City of Death and Pyramids Of Mars are great stories as well.

There are several I could make a case for. The one I will bring up first is the one that comes to mind first... Blink

Keep in mind I started watching Who with Doctor 9 and never went back so I'm sure I'm skipping things others love.

For most of the other great episodes I can think of "It's great, but..." for Blink I have no buts. Girl in the Fireplace was great, but the clockwork gnomes were silly. Human Nature/Family of Blood was great, but dragged on too long near the middle. Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead was great, but it had that extended dream Donna segments. Vincent and the Doctor, to me, was an average episode that just had a very emotional last 8 minutes. The Doctor's Wife... House, etc.

Blink was not only one of the best written episodes I have ever seen, it was genuinely terrifying. It played with time in a way the new series really hadn't seen done nearly that well up to that point. The acting was extraordinary. Carey Mulligan has since been nominated for an Oscar and here you can see why. Even the cinematography was top notch. The scene where Sally goes to the hospital to meet with the dying cop really comes to mind. The look of that entire scene is something you would expect to see in a movie, not a Saturday evening tv broadcast.

Blink was great, but it wasn't a two-parter. Ok, I finally was able to think of a but.

The Mind Robber. The most imaginative, whimsical, surreal story in any incarnation of Doctor Who. Never bettered, in my opinion.

Other close contenders would be Blink, The Doctor's Wife, Ghost Light, The Web of Fear and The Horror of Fang Rock.

The Ark In Space.

Excellent story with the greatest Tardis crew of them all, including the best Doctor and the best assistant......

Notable mentions also to Pyramids of Mars, Planet of Evil, Brain of Morbius and Seeds of Doom.

The one I remember most vividly from my childhood was Genesis of the Daleks so I will choose that one even though I havent gone back to watch it again. I dont suppose Davros would seem quite so terrifying in retrospect.

The Eleventh Hour is just perfect!

It is a single episode that rebooted the show! It was refreshing, it was genius and it made me meet MY doctor and introduced two of the most loveable companions into the show! It was mad, action packed, fun, exciting, hilarious, off the wall and phenomenal from start to finish! Absolutely breathtaking episode and was an absolute daring risk too! And it paid off!

Of course there was some phenomenal episodes before (mostly The Moffs episodes he wrote!) and of course series 5 and 6 have had some absolutely fantastic storylines and episodes (Flesh & Stone 2 parter, Pandorica Opens 2 aprter, Vincent & The Doctor, The Lodger, Amys Choice, A good Man goes To War, The Doctors Wife, Day Of The Moon 2 parter!)

And long may they keep on comin!

Classic Who - They're pretty much all cheesey, poorly acted shit from what I've seen. Yet to see a good one.
